Ok, I have pretty standard bolt ons listed in sig, cai, sct 2 bamachips tune, 4.10's, slp loudmouths (just sound I know)... But where the hell are the next 25-30hp coming from? Gone are the 5.0 days when your could buy 8 different sets of heads for 1300 or less and bold on 40 firebreathing hp? Hell there isn't even a 20 hp intake to be had! Come on someone, give me some heads (sounded a lot nastier than it was meant). But, I really would enjoy more ponies....where to look?

Hell, I may have to just address handling with the ford racing handling pack and decide that I'm going to be hp deficient! Oh the shame!

I think most people are going to tell you to go after some long tube headers, and/or an off-road pipe of some sort. That would get you the next 25 hp you are looking for.

I see that you are from Cali too, so if you are concerned about smog (like I am) then this option won't be feasible.

I'm not familiar with how often you have to have emissions inspections in Cali, but I can tell you that an offroad H or X pipe will add about 10 horse. But even then, if you add a pipe like that to your SLPs, watch out! That thing will be LOUD. I mean LOUD !

Some other people might suggest a throttle body, charge motion control delete plates, or long tube headers; I don't have experience with those pieces as far as true performance gains so I'll leave that to them. I would put your pullies on, debate on a midpipe, and then look at weight reduction. You may find that to be cheaper than actually adding horses at the engine.

thanks all.....sound advice and pretty much what I was thinking. I sent jba an e-mail asking if they were working on a carb legal longtube set up and have heard nothing back. Then again the car was purchased Nov of 04 and need not be smogged until nov 2010. I likely won't have the car that long, so..... Exhaust is the likely victim right now.

Thanks tom for letting me know about the LOUD LOUD repercussions of slps and h pipe upgrades. So If I figure on doing exhaust, I should figure from the headers ALL THE WAY BACK. Figures. So I'm figuring maybe 1500 for 25 ponies hmmmmm. Time will tell. Damn an SC would have been easy, but I was just scared away by the stories of blowing up rods and the like.

nitrous is a seductive female canine, however again worried about detonation and I like the idea of hp always on demand. So for now at least no nitrous.

Focus on making your car more mechanically efficient to achieve the horsepower you want.

An electric waterpump, carbon fiber driveshaft, and lighter clutch/flywheel combo might get you 20-25 hp and at the same time have a positive effect on fuel economy and responsiveness, all while not compromising the durability of your engine.

It ain't the cheapest way to go fast, but neither is this car.

I heard that..........I can't justify a nitrous kit at this time either. Tempting, very tempting, but not for me.

Apparently, Livernois is now offering a set of ported 3-valve heads for about $1495 exchange. According to the dyno chart, they are good for 30-40 h.p. and maybe more with other mods - perhaps up to about 350 hp total in normally aspirated form.

yeah, but i would wait for more companies to come out. See if the price falls. But 1495 with exchange isn't such a hit in the wallet. From what i understand is that those are a great set of heads!

went to Livernois, they didn't list an "expected" hp increase. Anyone on these boards have them? Sounds like a very real posibility! 30-40 hp would be just about right!

Check out the independent dyno test on these Livernois heads in the May/06 issue of 5.0 Mustang. They were good for 40 peak-to-peak hp and 20 lb.ft. torque on a bone stock 05 GT (maxed out at 312.6 hp at 6200 rpm and 322.8 lb.ft. at 4300 rpm) with excellent gains in both hp and torque from 4000 rpm on up to 6400 rpm. They also got another 05 GT with CAI, underdrive pullies, Magnaflow exhaust, headers, and charge motion delete plates to pull 352 rear wheel hp (80 hp more than stock which was a healthy 272 hp) Quite impressive! Price is actually $1595 exchange or $2195 outright. Has anybody out there installed a set of these heads yet? What do you think?

You'll get a real world number of 15hp to the rear wheels with Long Tube Headers...

Sounds nice assuming the numbers turn out to be real world. Also depending on cost of install. 40 hp with 20lbs for around 2000+or- installed would be if not a good deal at least a doable one, assuming drivability and passing smog without too much stress.
