Im converting my 66 289 to a dual exhaust.. I want to do the GT kit so im getting the y headers.. and the kit for the cat back.. anyone know of a good website where I can order this..
If you want a great exhaust for mustangs go to Dr. Gas. (www.drgas.com) They are famous for their mandrel bent dual exhaust and crossover system to get you maximum power. Just hook up with some headers first.

You're better off with a custom exhaust system from a local muffler shop. Good kits cost almost as much and you have the hassle of assembling and fitting them. You'll need new body and rear axle brake lines installed. The "GT" has different routing of the brake lines to keep hot exhaust pipes away from rubber coated brake hoses. For this you need:
a. body brake line
b. body bracket
c. line clip (can reuse from single exhaust)
d. GT axle lines (2)
e. GT brake hose and manifold assembly
f. body butterfly clips (2)
In addition to the exhaust system. This is a safety issue in '65/'66 since braking systems are not dual redundant. Be sure to consider this when doing the dual exhaust mod on '65 or '66.
Weld (b) to "L" stamping on axle hump directly in front of axle breather tube. Remove and replace body line (a) using butterfly clips (f) and line clip (c). Remove and replace axle lines and hose (d & e). Now your car is ready for the dual exhaust installation.

If youre looking for a nice high flow exhaust that fits the GT valance you cannot beat the MAC 2 1/2" system. I installed in on my 65 GT 331/EFI and it fits like a glove, with stainless tailpipes thru the valance. It aint cheap but its very nice.
