where does the power for the headlights and the alt come out of the firewall? ( dumb question I know but my harness does not conect to any thing)

I'm not sure what you mean. The headlight feed (from the MF switch going to the front headlights) comes down the driver side harness along the fender. I'd assume the Alt's switch wiring comes out the same harness but cant say for sure.
