I had to take my 5.0 HO plaque off the intake. Then move those salt and pepper sakers...The black and white wiring harness connectors.

It's on the back side of your lower intake. Stick your hand down there and you should feel it.

Except for Ford, all replacement PCV's come with an elbow on them. Twist and pull on the elbow and the plastic part will slip off. It will now look like the factory piece.

If it rattles, its still good. Don't mean to steal the thread but what is this screen I hear a lot of people replacing and where is it?

not necessarily. there is a spring in there which can fatigue. once fatigued, the valve will still rattle (perhaps more than it should), but that does not mean the valve is good.

the screen is below the grommet (and valve).

Well then I stand corrected. What is the screen called?

the PCV valve screen.

or tell them it is the metal/mesh screen below the valve and they can look it up on micro film.

The screen is most likely plugged up. Remove the rubber grommet the pcv sits in by just sticking your finger in it and pulling it out, then the screen is under that. Get a thin "L" shaped hook or pick and dig it out by hooking the pick in the screen. Replace the screen the dealer will know about the screen.

I think that might be the problem - you are using the wrong set of forearms.

The screen below the PCV valve is called the Crankcase Breather Filter Motorcraft FA-1068 (E6ZZ-6A631B), but I've also seen it called a PCV Valve Screen in some catalogs.

I'm usually able to extract the screen by hooking the edge with a fingernail and slide it out of the hole. If it isn't too clogged up you can shoot it out with some carb cleaner, but it's a cheap part to replace.

i just swapped the valve, grommet and screen in my 94 today. not original valve, but looked like original grommet (hard as a rock) and screen. NO way was i gonna clean that screen. i did clean the screen in my 88 once but it looked decent before starting. new screen for 5 bucks is worth it - vs. otherwise blowing oil out seals and troubleshooting that down the line (MHO).
