The head gaskets on my 94 3.8 went and I it will cost a few hundred just for parts if I do the work myself. So I am thinking of putting a v8 in it. I have been told that I can use the v6 tranny and rearend for now, they just arent as strong. What I want to know is which of the following will go in the easiest. I can get a 5.0 motor from an 87-95, I believe they are the same, and all I will need to change is the computer and a/c something, right? I can also get a 4.6 from a 97, is that hard to work with? I believe I will also need the intake from both of these. Any others suggestions just let me know thanks.

eh i dont know about the trans, i wouldnt use it, but im almost positive that the rear on the 94 up v6 is an 8.8" which is the same as the 94-up v8.

Alright, I can get a motor from a 94 with a 5.0 in it. The guy says it doesnt come with the power steering pump, alternator, and starter I believe. So what else do I need to make sure I get to complete the swap?

motor mounts and exhaust, the v6 accessories will work and you need a v8 radiator probably plus the computer and harnesses

I dont see how its going to cost a "couple hundred" just for parts to change a head gasket. All you need are head and intake gaskets which shouldnt cost more than $75 and a weekend to install them.

As far as the cost of a HG change vs. a V8 swap, just change your gasket. The cost, time, and effort of an engine changeover is alot more than keeping what you have. Not only that, your car will remain more valuable and will be easier to sell down the road.

I priced gaskets, they were 65-80 dollars, and they have to be sent to a machine shop, so thats another 220-250 dollars. I found a few engines for 400 to 500 dollars.

Huh? How is a machine shop even involved? Go to Pep Boys and get some Felpro gaskets or if you live painfully far out in the sticks, order online or something. Also, you may be able to get an engine for 400-500, but its going to cost a hell of alot more than that for all the parts needed to make it work. Factor in an 8.8 rear and V8-spec T5 down the road too.
