Do yourself a favor, and spend a little extra to get a bigger compressor. I've used everything smaller than the one I have now, and they all run far too often at the most inopportune times IMHO.

I have a 60 gallon 220volt version from Home Depot. Cost just over $400 on sale. I can paint an entire car, air-sand an entire cabinet, or air up everyone on the blocks tires easily before even thinking about having to switch it back on. Only downside was I had to make the wire and 220 plug to run to my dryer plug.

I live in a 2nd floor apartment, so 26 gallon was even pushing it a little. It works out perfect for me. I only use small air tools, like an impact wrench and an air ratchet, so I don't have to worry about it kicking on very often. I tested it today to see how long it'd power the impact wrench before it emptied the tank, and it ran for a good while. But yeah, when you put torque on it and use it often it'll start to run. But it works for what I need it to

But yes, when I am stationed in a home, I'll be getting a rather large compressor. A friend of mine was going to sell his 60 (or maybe it was a 75) gallon 220 volt compressor to me for like $200. My dad said we had no room for it. That was when I lived back home.
