Which Muffler? 2.25" or 2.5"?

I was looking for some Flowmaster 2 chambers to throw on my 98 GT at the PartShopper site and it listed the 40 series 2.5" offset in/out as a direct replacement. But I went in the garage with the calipers and they measured somewhere around 2.25". The site doesn't sell the basic 40 series in 2.25", but they do have the Super 40's in that size. Is the sound of the Super 40's similar to the basic 40's or alot different?

And just to be sure before ordering, will these parts be a direct replacement for my 98 GT with a stock exhaust system, or will I have to modify any tubing?

if you are just replacing the mufflers, the 2.25" will work. i'm sure there are adapters somewhere to fit the 2.5". but i recommend getting a full cat-back system. the stock piping, as you've probably noticed, isn't the greatest. if you don't plan on making much more power than stock, just replacing the mufflers is fine, but if you are looking to make alot more power in the future, get a cat-back.

I'd go with the 2 1/2 and just weld a set of reducers on each end when you get them. That way, if later on you do decide to upgrade the rest of the system, you don't have to buy an new set of mufflers again to do so. Just chop off the reducers and weld them into the rest of the set up :nice:
