right now... car is at 4400 miles.. motorcraft 5w20 and motorcraft fl-820 filter

when the car hit 9000, i'm running either mobil 1 or royal purple

5w-20 Mobil 1 w/ the Motorcraft filter here! stay away from Fram filters! Fram= teh lose

+1 same here. Fram is junk, except for that nice little rubber grip thing.

why does everyone use 5W20? I use 10W30 only because that seemed to be the standard oil used in most vehicles. is there a certain benefit to 5 weight that i should know about? I run Castrol Full syn if that makes a difference.

There are two numbers involved with motor oil. The first one with the "w" has to do with its weight during the winter or its pour weight at freezing point. The lower the number with the "w", the better the oil flows when cold. The higher, the thicker it is when cold. You want as thin of a weight as possible in the cold so it will flow to the motor and lubricate it faster on start up and early oppertation.

The second number has to do with its weight at normal operating temperature. Hence, in this case, the "30" number. I hope that helps.

Just for the record all, I'm using Mobil 1 0w-20 w/ Mobil 1 oil filter. Next oil change I will be using Amsoil HP 5w-30 w/ Amsoil oil filter.

I was reading Sean Hyland's book "How To Build Max-Performance 4.6-liter Ford Engines" and he mentions that the bleed-down rates of the hydraulic lash adjusters (especially the DOHC engines but I figure it probably applies to the 2V motor as well, if to a lesser extent) were essentially designed for a specific weight, 5W20 or 5W30 depending on the model year, of motor oil. Too thick an oil can lead to the lifters pumping up. Now, this likely applies really only to very high RPM applications but it's another thing to think about.

I still run 5W20 & the Ford filter in my 02. I'll probably be switching to M1 5W30 (staying with the factory filter) before too long.

how many qts of oil does everyone use in their 99-00 GTs?? i use 5 qts and i was wondering if anyone else uses 5 qts in their 00GT as well.
