Smoking and idling rough

Today my car has started putting out alot of bluesmoke and the idle is rough. Also it sounds like it has a bad exhaust leak but I cant find it leaking anywhere.Also yesterday My check oil light came on so I had to put a quart in it. It has never been low before since I have had the car. What could be wrong?

Is it overheating? If so, STOP DRIVING IT.

It may be either a lower intake manifold leak, or a blown headgasket. Hopefully it's the former and not the latter.

Nope it is not overheating. The ticking doesnt sound like its coming from under the hood it sounds like it coming from under the middle of the car and I dont know why. When it gets warm it pours smoke when you rev it up.

almost sounds like what happen when i screwed up a valve.

1) run a compression test

2)do a cyl balence test (basically pull 1 plug wire at a time and see if it makes a difference in how the car is running)

3)bring it to an shop

Sorry about saying the smoke was white the smoke is blue.

blue=burning oil if my memory is right


when the motor is running do you hear any tapping/strange noises coming from the valve cover areas? definatly try a compression test. atleast pull the plugs and inspect them

That sounded just like mine, but was white smoke. It made the same ticking noise and it ended up being a blown headgasket.

blown hg almost always blows white smoke, blue smoke is deffinately oil, first check sparkplugs, that will tell you which cylinder to look at first, next check valves, maybe a bent valve or excessive carbon buildup, it could be as simple as a valve job; or if its not valves look into a leaking gasket, intake gaskets hg's (I doubt hg's though) or worst case scenario bad valve seals, bad piston rings, cracked piston, scored bore(s) cracked intake (lower), bent valve(s) that should cover most of it.. theres lots of variables, make a checklist and just go through it methodically; If your not sure how to test or check something post it up. hope that helps...
