Check your oil & radiator. Sorry to say but white smoke is usually coolant in the oil, which means blown headgasket. Def check it out before driving anymore.

You sure it wasnt blue at all? Blue = oil, which can be just as bad.

How manay miles, and has it been beat on pretty bad?

Mine has some oil leak since a while now and it sucks, I hate it, i'm too poor of a college student to add another other mods. I add some oil every month or so and it's allright.

3 Possibilities

1. Water Vapor
Likely not this if the smoke had a smell. If you recently started the car and the humidity outside was low (often on dry cold days), you'd see the water vapor from the exhaust pipes.

2. Coolant
Head gasket issues. This will cause white smoke. Possibly more at idle and when the engine is cold and only until the gasket leak gets worse. Check the oil on your dipstick for evidence of water/coolant.

3. Oil
This causes a off-white smoke but you may not have noticed the color distinction. Smoking at idle from burning oil is caused by leaky valve seals.
