who all has gone 12's NA with 3.55 gears?

just wondering........I drive my car daily and would like to get it to run around at least mid 12's but still keep it streetable (my opinion of that) is AC working, full body, no lightning (maybe no spare) and Naturally Aspirated with 3:55:1 rear end gears.........

oh did I mention with more or less the stock cam, stock rockers, stock heads, and basically stock engine.......ie no stroker kits, high dollar aluminum flywheels etc...
can it be done?

Speed costs money.

I run a 12.3 n/a on street radials, but I lightened the car and did all of the things you're saying you want to avoid.

Of course traction is my big issue.

It's not real easy to do, and since I haven't done it, I could only guess as to the solution.

my friend has a na 351 thats got h/c/i bored and stroked, idk the specs, built stock tranny, 3.55s and ran a 12.099 but the clutch went 3/4 of the way down the track, when he went to shift into 4th, so he crossed the traps at 74mph cause he hit the brakes. he could have easily run a low 11..... i dont think youll be able to do that with the limits that you have set. it might be able to be done if you have a good set of heads and and intake manifold and some n2o or a blower/turbo. another guy i go to the track with has a 92 vert with a cage, full interior, ac and eveything, with h/c/i and a turbo. stock botom end and rear. he ran a 14.4 at 118mph.... on street tires. he has 3.55s also.

well i dont think your going to be able to do it with stock heads with only a 3.55 gears .

stock cam sure you can keep that and to do it n/a is gunna be tuff .

sure you could build a factory stock car and run some mid 12's in street trim but even them guys are running 4.30 gears and higher .

its going to take you a nice set of heads and good intake and youll have the power to run mid 12's on street tires it might be a little tuff .

I did h/c/i and ran a 13.2@107 on crappy street tires. I figure with me driving a little better (I was sick) and some sticky tires, it should go 12's.

4.10, stall, exhaust, ET streets--as the only big mods and it ran 13.1.

I don't think you'll be able to do it with full weight, 3.55 and bolt-ons. One member here named cleanLX went 12.7-8 with a couple bolt-ons...maybe he'll see this thread.

I got the 82 down to 12.90 with as little engine as anyone I know of.

This car is light, 2900 lbs, no ac, manual steering, and on Drag Radials, but it has a stock short block with 90 k miles, a 600 Holley, and just GT40 heads, a small converter and 4.10's. It is a very basic car.

A few years back, the short belt, max timing, and unbolt the extra stuff would do it. Some tuning and practice, and some tires, and you should be able to get there on a good day.

Do you run out of gear at the end of the track? It just seems like your 1/8th mph is incredibly fast compared to your 1/4 mph. My best 1/8th mph was 85 with a 107 1/4.

My combo works well for a street car and if you dont mind 12s on a tire, Im sure my parts would do it on 3.55s even with the AC back in!

I have stock cam, E7s with GT-40 valves and a valve job, unported Cobra intake and all the bolt ons. Figure if you put 3.55s in my car and added lets say 100 pounds to it, it would probably be a 12.7-12.8 car on the slicks, and 13.2-13.3s on radials. These are guesses but it would be perfect for daily driving duties!

My 82 is pretty maxed out at the end of the quarter with the 4.10 gears. It ran the 12.90 on motor only and trapped about 104, and did 106 with a couple seconds of spray. The 7.80 eighth mile times were fully sprayed with a 100 shot.

Crunching numbers, I figured it should be ok crossing the finish line at 5900 to 6200, which should be 104 to 105 or so.

Since the car does not have to drive very far, I put as much gear in it as I thought it could stand for the track. I have a 456 set in an 8.8 ready to put in for the eighth mile.

i know you want NA but i also think this is impossible with your constraints, but dont fear the bottle! i got a compucar nitrous in a bag for 175$ shipped on ebay, have used it many, MANY, times now on my stock geared bolt on pig of a GT with over 140K on the clock and no problems! and it wrecks shop on my friends 3.55/edelbrock headed car GT 5.0, and pulled nearly two car lengths on a turbocharged and gsr motor swaped 1993 civic with stripped interior from a dig, i know every race and every car is different, and i know my car is CERTAINLY not the fastest thing around but for the money invested, with some nittos sticky street tires i would bet it runs 12's,it stays pretty close to ls1's and it rapes evos and wrx's from a role and the nitrous is tons of fun on the street, big torque=big smile, plus when the little button is not pushed it gets great gas mileage and passes smog no probs with the stock H pipe!

i bet with a zex 125HP wet kit and just 3.55's and exhaust you would run 12's easy with decent driving, those kits are barely 400$ and about as safe as you can get
