Title says it all. Engine and tranny combo from an 86 Turbo Coupe. Figure we might throw in a new clutch before it all goes in.

any recommendations other than the 124.99 dollar Duralast autostupid clutch????

Ask 351wcoupe he is the expert on breaking clutches so he would know the best one to buy by now.

I might lend a suggestion but you might not like it since I work at "autostupid"

I have been through a bunch those lifetime warranty clutches and here's the deal. This is for all later turbo 2.3s. Every pressure plate I've had is exactly the same PN. I have yet to open a clutch kit that had exactly the same disc.
The autozone clutch will hold a good bit of "stock power". I drove it a year and then I made about 65 passes on the first one before it started slipping. Then as power started to go up I was only getting about 10 runs on slicks and nitrous. I kept everything at the store so I could keep track of the good and bad.
Every now and then the clutch kit would come with a disc that had metal clips that hold the center section together, these did well. The plastic ones "might" last one night.
I went as fast as 8.48 in the 1/8 on that clutch, I got really good at pulling the transmisison and also grew tired of it all too. I went to clutchnet or something to that effect(I'll find it later) and bought the Spec stage 3 disc only. Its a 6puck sprung hub and I run it with the stock pressure. Everybody said their complete kit came with a part number that matched mine anyway.
Its been 37 passes and bunch more nitrous and a ton of street runs

It takes the same pedal effort but grips really well.

"Here's your change" (my 2 cents)

"and have a good day"

If you can find me a link to those Spec stage 3 discs or if they have a complete kit that would be cool. Dont get me wrong I also used to work for autostupid.... Its why I call it that some many stupid people worked there when I did.

Guess I will search for LUK and SPEC clutches. IF this was going to be driven by just me I would just do an autostupid one as I had one in the 89 GT I used to have and it sa 20,xxx of almost pure racing! lol But since my g/f will also be driving it I want something that will take a bit more abuse and keep fighting.

89stang:Before turning the car over to anybody else make sure they can adjust to the new clutch. Its really close to On or Off, So taking off naturally gets stiffer.

Cro: The autozone ones are LUK too. I used the Cumberland and never tried my LUK.

Rich: The week after you were at the Duck, we changed a clutch between runs and with 3 people and laying the tools out beforehand it only took 20 minutes start to finish. Felt like a top fuel team and I've almost healed from the burns.
