Does anyone know if a 1995 car needs to be tested this year for emissions?

there is no more selective year emissions testing in ma. It's all done by random. The computer pics the vehicles to go for smog tests.

from what I hear, there will be no more emissions testing on OBD1 vehicles starting in 2008

Today i went to an inspection station and found that next october they eliminate the obd-1 emissions testing (big yey!) and that if you look at your sticker and it has a s then you need to run emissions, and if it has a s+e then your ok. emissions is every 2 years. I have a s+e because i ran the dyno last year, however if your out of the inspection expiration by 60 days your required to re-test....which SUCKS because I am!

....I wish i could! I am installing the 2-high flow cat h-pipe, adding a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, pluming the smog pump for constant operation and switching to the stock tune (for timing reasons).....

I still have a cam and no egr working aganst me.....What a PITA...

Do you realize how little drive i have to install parts that make my car quiet and slow?

Does that mean you can pass inspection with an offroad pipe after next October?

no, most likely they will just do a visual...however my offroad h has heatshields welded on that look like cats

That sucks man. When I went for my sticker the guy said it was random testing now. I haven't done an emissions test on my explorer in 2 years, only safety. Meanwhile the stang got both this year cause I never got one when I registered the car. The previous sticker was still good so I didn't see a need to throw away $29..LOL

I can't wait for the no emissions testing thing to kick in. It's getting pretty strict in ma for allot of the older cars to comply with the emissions testing.

the no emissons thing is great, but it also sucks that they can fail you if the car "sounds louder than stock" which they graciously did to me this past spring.(and this was with a stock h-pipe re-installed!!) even the place that passed me with the stock h said they wont pass my car next year if its this loud.. so that means my off-road h pipe will be almost impossible. also, from what ive heard, if you take your car off of the road for the winter and switch plates to a winter beater, you have to then test emissions EVERY time you put your car back on the road... sucks to be me!

I end up doing emissions every year too since it always becomes unregistered throughout winter. Every year, different shops have different rules they stick to or not, and every year I end up either not getting a sticker at all ($50 ticket vs. bull**** hassle, I'll take the ticket) or wait til I find someone who will not fail me for loud exhaust when I can still pass emissions checks. I failed one year when I had nothing but a catback done to the car. EVERYTHING else was stock but he argued with me about it. Took it elsewhere and had no problem. Either way, **** this, I'm moving.

the contract the state has with the software/hardware company is coming to an end. that leaves this to particular issue to still be decided. there will be a lot of dyno's and the money invested in them anding to this as well. even if they stop emission testing on OBD1/1995 and older the safety inspection will be just as stringent and to include a visual of OEM emission equipment. so they open the hood and no cats. unhooked EGR valve or no AIR pump,ect. and you would get a rejection sticker. just because they not going to be testing it, they are certainly going to make sure it's there and hooked up. just food for though.

p.s.
did they pass that law that would make it illegal to modify the stock exhaust?

That's been on the books for years, at least as far as emissions (duh) and decibel level are concerned - but whether or not it's enforced @ inspection stations is the current issue.

such a pain....im about at the point of just taking a ticket and not getting a sticker, but you get screwed on insurance from the points.

the way i see it, even if they do visuals when/if they eventually stop doing the dyno test, that isnt an issue....stuff can be made to look like it works, etc.

I heard that they are having problems with the dyno's brakes and cars are crashing off......? who knows.....

Anyhow.....I installed my 2-high flow cats shorty h-pipe, and hooked up my smog pump to constant running. I POURED in a bottle of isopropyl alchol, we will see tommorow if it passes...

If they pass a law saying its illegal to modify your stock exhaust, I will probably end up selling the car or leaving the state...this is getting soo stupid....

its such a pain every year, i dread having to get a sticker.....

I dont think they did pass that law. I got a sticker in October with a Lou's custom catback (pretty loud). Most everyone with a performance car probably has some kind of aftermarket exhaust.
You think you'll have a problem running hi flow cats though?

itll be a matter of the tech failing it due to sound level, or something else wrong in the emissions system. I pass as fine as if it were stock using a high flow cat H pipe).
