Why and is it normal?

I recently purchased and installed the bilsteins HD shocks and struts and I noticed that my left rear side is sitting 1.5-2inches lower than my right rear side. (Bilstein shocks and struts were purchased from AMerican Muscle).

I had two mechanics (from two auto service shops) check the install and both agreed the installation were flawlessly done.

I had both mechanics (from two auto service shops) check my springs and no defect was found.

I had an autobody shop check for any damages or bending in the frame that may contribute to this observation and no defect or bending was found. The vehicle is in perfect condition.

I had my vehicle alignment done and my mustang gt still sits lower on the left rear side than the right rear side.

My 2002 Mustang GT is at stock height and using stock rims/tires. No modification to the suspension was done.

Why is it sitting unevenly and is it normal? 1.5-2in difference between the left and the right rear side is a bit drastic for me.



Please help me out with this?

i cant tell you why but i have heard of this happening before on mustangs.

try taking out an isolator on the higher side to level things out

I know the 5.0 foxbody has this issue but is it also an issue for 2002 GT's?

Normal?.....i dont know about it being normal but i have seen this happen before on other types of cars as well. i would determine which side is the right ride height and then i would contact american muscle to see if they would warrenty the other one just to see if it changes anything. there is something wrong somewhere. it sat normal before....right?

Have you tried swapping the shocks or springs to see which one is causing the issue?

I would then call whoever you ordered the springs from, because the springs would be causing the ride height difference unless the opposite sides' shock is defective and blown.

alot of mustang have the "sag", mine did too, and i tryed everthing to fix it and could not figure anything out, but just 2 weeks ago, i changed all of my rear control arm buschings with poly ones, and the right rear front busching was split, it sits perfect now................

swap out the parts from side to side, see if it still sags. If it does, the parts you bought are defective.

I've thought my stang sat wierd for a long time and everyone else says it looks fine. I've checked springs, shocks and iso's but didn't think of the bushings. I'm checking those when I get home. Thanks man.

Are the bottom ends of the rear springs both turned to the drivers side or the 9 O'clock position?
If not this would cause one side to sit higher. Also take of the shocks and press them in by hand to see if they move through their entire range of motion.

Your car sits like crap
Go get some lowering springs. Maybe that will help. I bet it would atleast fix the diffrence between the 2 sides to make it atleast a little better. If it doesn't, go buy some Adj. lower control arms, and set both sides to the perfect exact height that you want.
I would however make SURE that the pig tail on the rear spring is facing the DRIVERS side.. BOTH of them need to be facing the driver side, as close to perfect as you can get them, meaning both of them need to be at the same angle and everything.
The body shop and Auto techs probably missed this, unless they were ford specialists and even they may miss it unless they dealt with aftermarket stuff a lot. They're just trained to put everything back the way it was.
Maybe when you were doing the rear, the orientation of the springs changed and you just missed it?

Problem solved. Springs somehow came out of place. Now both front and back are leveled.
