Why is it these days most cars don't have NAMES anymore it's just a bunch of numbers and letters. Letters and numbers used to desginate engine sizes and trim packages.

Example I have a Mustang. My friend has a Mustang GT. Mustang - car has a name. Mustang GT - car has a name but the "GT" designates extras like bigger engine, fog lights, dual exhaust, etc.

Another example my mom has Chrysler Sebring LX. My Aunt has a Sebring LXi. The "i" in "LXi" means that it has leather interior instead of cloth.

Here's a list of Number/Letter name cars.

Acura RL
Acura RSX
Acura TL
Acura TSX
Astron Martin DB9 (their other cars are the Vanquish and Vantage, they have names)
Audi A3
Audi A4/S4
Audi A6
Audi A8/A8 L
Audi TT
BMW 3, 5, 6, 7 Series
BMW Z4
Cadillac CTS/CTS-V
Cadillac DTS
Cadillac STS/STS-V
Cadilllac XLR/XLR-V
Chevrolet HHR
Chrysler 300/300 C/300 C SRT8
Ferrari F430/ F430 Spider (wow spider was spelled the right way)
Ford Five Hundred (Spelling "500" out does not let you off the hook)
Ford GT (sorry but it's just 2 letters, even though it is one the the fastest production cars out there)
Honda S2000
Infiniti G35/ G35 Coupe
Infiniti M35/M45
Infiniti Q45
Jaguar S-type/S-type R
Jaguar X-type
Jaguar XJ series
Jaguar Xk series
Lexus ES 330
Lexus GS 300/430
Lexus IS 250/350
Lexus LS 430
Lexus SC 430
Lincoln LS
Maybach 57/ 57 S/ 62
Mazda RX-8 (RX-7, RX-6, RX-3 etc.)
Mazda 3
Mazda 6
Mercedes-Benz C-class
Mercedes-Benz CL-class
Mercedes-Benz CLS-class
Mercedes-Benz E-class
Mercedes-Benz S-class
Mercedes-Benz SL-class
Mercedes-Benz SLK-class
Molser MT900
Nissan 350Z (i know, i know it's vased on the old datsun)
Pontiac G6
Pontiac GTO (longest funning letter only production car)
Saab 9-2X
Saab 9-3
Saleen S7
Scion tC ( does that stand for Tart Cart?)
Scion xA
Scion xB/bB
Volvo S40/V50
Volvo S60/S60R
Volvo S80

Much easier than finding a name for them. Also, if you named let's say the Mustang GT as the Mustang Butterfly, alot of people probably wouldn't buy it because of the name.

Yeah but the "GT" just designates the trim package. If it was just the Ford Butterfly then yeah you'd have a problem. Or just don't pick such a panzy name.

well in defense of the GT, it is modeled afterthe GT-40, so naming it anything else would be a traveshamockery. Yeah the letters and numbers thing is a trend, it'll be gone after a while. i much prefer this to GM's made up names they used. ( i owned a cutlass ciera, wtf is a ciera?)

The only use this has done was waste time on a debate how about how wasted time was around here. And give zinc a chance to call GTs butterflies.

Don't forget the new Miata. Mazda took the Miata name off of it and they want people to call it just "MX-5" from now on. And the new Nissan Skyline GT-R is going to be called the Nissan GT-R.

When I worked at Ford I heard the Ford Five-Hundred replaced the Ford Taurus but now they're changing it back to the Taurus because not many is buying it cuz of the name. I guess too fancy or expensive sounding or something

BTW the 500's CVT tranny's are Niiiiice
