why do car companies condone illegal activities in their commercials?

Has anyone else noticed this lately? It seems like every "performance" car commercial I have seen in the past year has had two middle aged idiots lining up at a stoplight. Dodge's Magnum commercial has the Magnum racing against a Porsche, and one of them is even on the wrong side of the road! A Mercedes commercial I just saw the other night has a man and woman supposedly "hitting it off" by dragging their grossly expensive cars at a stoplight on what looks like mainstreet of some city. I just don't get this crap, they're really promoting all the wrong things. People will protest until they are red in the face to get shows like Family Guy kicked off the air, but the big car manufacturers can glorify an activity that causes unnecessary deaths without anyone mumbling so much as a word. Does anyone else find this sort of twisted and wrong?

I'm waiting for someone to pull one of these commercials up in court while they are sueing because their warranty got voided for driving their car too hard

Yeah, the "Do not attempt, done by a professional driver on a closed course" or whatever ..... But still, it seems kinda weird. Next time I get pulled for any reason, I'll say "Sir, I saw it on a commercial and I'm illiterate" ...

I've always thought it was odd too. But like there are some where like the light turns green and the car being advertised doesn't move or turns ... Weird marketing message in that type of advertising.

It is gender based advertising IMO. For instance, you never see a mini-van drifting through a city or revving their engine at a stop light ... always loading groceries, sporting event, etc ... With a female driving usually.

On the other hand these car commercials seem to be marketed towards mostly men IMO. It is interesting. What about that commercial with the truck (can't remember which Co.) but the driver was doin' donuts in someone's yard ... Even if it is a professional driver on a closed course, WTF does that matter? They are still doing in "street" cars. Anything to generate that mighty piece of green paper.

I once saw a commercial for a Buick Rendevous or some other kind of "luxury SUV."

She was driving to work in the city. While driving to work, she put her make-up on in the rearview mirror.

The commercial voice then said something about how smooth the ride is or some bs.

I couldn't believe it. You're really going to care how smooth the car is when you rear end someone or run a red light and kill someone, because you're putting on you're mother****ing makeup while driving.

While there are those small disclaimers, I have always wondered if there is any actual case law about this?

The reason is that the small print at the bottom of the screen is suppose to offer clarification. Instead it has evolved into contradictory information. They visually show that you can do it, but write that you can't. Well, which is it? Can I or can't I? Which has precedence of the other?

Hell, we've all known that for months now, but it's going to be kind of tough for you to explain to him how you got your license in the first place, without knowing how to read?

Twisted? yes...since they're doing something we legally can't do and that's not fair! Hypes you all up about the car and buying it and doing what they did in the commercial! Even like the doughnut '06 'stang GT commercial...

Wrong? disclaimers are great! (as mentioned before)

PS: the Magnum was "racing" a Lotus

it's good marketing. performance is in. that's what people look for in cars now. they are just giving America what it wants. "look, our car is fast. buy it!"

How did you "try" it? Those little warnings are meant to keep people from sueing them if they get hurt mimicing the comercial, but they severely contradict themselves when they define it as "Performance" in the comercials and "Abuse" when you want waranty work.

Had an attorney friend write them a nasti-gram because they wouldn't do the TSB 3605 and voided the warranty on the whole car.

They sent a still picture of a few commercials with the specific text. Then were nice enough to un-void my warranty... but not do any damn work on the tranny.
