Why does my AOD shift so early

At WOT my car will shift at a little over 4000RPMs in first gear and a little less in later gears. This annoys me cause I know I'm missing out on a good 500+ RPMs of pull. Why does it do this or how can I fix it?

get a shift kit...that will probably help out. your stock tach might be off also and you just think its shifting low

i dont know much about AOD's (slushboxes in general), but i think you can get some weird shifting (early, etc, like you have) if the TV cable is not dialed in perfectly. kind of a finicky thing to adjust.

get yourself a trans-go shift kit & a torque converter with a higher stall rpm. for now you could manually shift from 1st to 2nd..leave it in D.
