v6 sound

I just bought the 05 v6 and took it directly to the exhaust shop. True duals from the cat back with a pair of flow master 40's and 3" tips made all the difference in sound and looks.

Hmmm....a couple of you have accused me of being "defensive" about my V-6 choice. Nothing could be further from the truth and I certainly did not mean to sound like I was attempting some moronic trashing of the GT. However, there is much more emphasis on the GT than the 6 in these forums (fori, forae?) and I figured I'd just try to shake the trees to see what others are thinking. Also, I'm relatively young still and prone to peer pressure. When I decide I finally want a "toy" car and if I wind up loving my V-6 then maybe I'll go for a GT vert. For now, the V-6 is my token gesture to practicality. Regardless, I have NO regrets (rather, WILL have no regrets when the damned car finally arrives!). Get what you want, enjoy it, and ignore the idiots who hassle you because of your decision!

the v6 & v8 are very different cars. of course you know the foglights & bumpers are different but keep in mind the suspension is different and the ride quality is by far better in the gt. Also, the resale/trade in value will be better in the GT.

Get used to the fact, that many posters in automotive forums like this are simply totally "performance driven" when it comes to what they drive, due often due to "ego issues"...and they aren't usually very openminded or interested in understanding the average buyers rationale for purchasing anything else. "Shaking the trees" to get their opinions about things not related to their specific area of interest, will often only result in smart assed, arrogant, (often ignorant) remarks or attacks in return.

The '05 Mustang happens to be one of those cars that will have wide appeal, to both performance oriented and everyday drivers. As such, it will attract two groups of people that can be miles apart in terms of how they think, and what's important to them in owning such a car. Sadly, too many so called enthusiasts equate a cars performance to an owners standing in their little online automotive communities. Don't let these types disuade you from your choice in buying a car...instead, find places to interact with those that share your interests and reasoning. Perhaps the site administator will in time determine enough interest to create a sub forum for V-6 owners. Then perhaps a lot of the bashing between these distinctly different groups of owners of the new Mustang will be less frequent.

The V6 Mustang by itself is not a bad car at all. 200+hp, RWD, great looks.
BUT....If I have the option of getting that same car with a V8, there is no way I would want the 6-er.

As someone else said it...even if the V8 had the same or even slightly LESS power, I would go with the V8 just for the sound. Same logic applies when the V8 vs. V10 debate comes up.

you know I think that MOST of us v8 owners actually don't rag on you v6 owners...it is starting to sound a little hypocritical...lots of the v6 owners on this thread in particular are starting to rag on v8 owners...why must we be so immature...I'm only 18 and I have this to say..grow up guys...v6, v8 who cares they're both nice cars...everyone buying a car needs to realize that cars are expensive..you're spending all this money on a car you need to decide beforehand if YOU are happy with the car..who gives a rats ass what others think..if you are happy with your purchase congratulations!! everyone is looking for different things out of a car..I'm young and haven't grown out of the finese of owning a fast car..plus I love the old muscular v8 rumble and do have intentions to race in the future (legally).. so I snagged a v8..someone looking for cheap insurance on a stylish car getting a v6 I say thumbs up to you...long live Mustang!!

LXXVICobra pretty much hit the nail on da' head and made a good observation...there really are two kinds of Mustang buyers out there (and this no doubt applies to many cars); performance driven enthusiasts and design driven enthusaists. I happen to be of the latter persuasion. All one has to do is drive down the road these days and with very, very, few exceptions they pretty much all look alike...boring. A Honda looks like a Toyota looks like a Nissan, looks like a Chevy, looks like a Lexus, looks like a Volvo, looks like a Mercedes, etc., etc. The design exceptions these days might include (not that they're for me by any stretch of the imagination) vehicles such as the PT Cruiser, the Dodge Magnum (that new station wagon-looking thing) and of course the 05 Mustang. That was the big attraction for me; it looked absolutely beautiful and has a real history. Nothing says "American Car" quite like the Mustang for the past 50 years or so. After 15 years of driving Honda Accords (very reliable and practical but high on the boring scale) it's time for something fun and I've finally found it!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting a V6. To the guy who said lack of a base model killed the FBody, they did have base models. The 3.8V6.
I own one. I like it. Insurance is cheaper, gas milage is better, not much, but when you consider the price of 87 vs 91...... $1.64 vs $1.84

There isn't anything wrong with an automatic either. No worries about missed shifts or rolling back on the car behind you. It's like a smart weapon. Fire and forget. And manual trannys are useless if you are missing a leg, or in my case having a near useless right hand.

Yes, I want a GT. If things work out I'll get the convertable model next year.
But if it's a V6 you want, by all means get one.

I myself wouldnt ever buy a V6, even with the New 05's. I've always had to have the V8 with some good exhaust sound and fun to drive attitude. However with that said, I STILL ENVY YOU!!
Alot of V8 owners forget that if it werent for the V6, the mustang probably wouldnt even exist because of sales. The Mustang is the BEST SELLING SPORTS CAR ( depending on whose term "sports car" you use) and it's that way mostly because of the V6 sales. However i seriously doubt the Mustang would exist if the V8 wasnt around either. So i guess both the V6 and V8 need each other. What are the numbers around? I think 60% sold are V6 and 40% sold are V8's? Somewhere around there.

I finally heard an 05 the other day......the sound alone is worth the price. One of the best OEM exhaust notes I've ever heard.

BTW, I too am a V8 kinda guy, but I am not so hung up on cubic inches when my 3.9L V8 is smaller than the V6 in the 05.

Seriously though folks, get a grip. He likes a V6 you like a V8.

You know what I like?

Mustangs.

The more they sell (V6 or V8) the happier I am.

A buddy of mine and I discussed this. We were curious who were more likely to buy a used car... someone going for "style and coolness" or someone going for practicality? We both kinda figured that a V6 would be more likely to have a higher resale value because people would want something cheaper and with better mileage.

Yeah, I realize that the listed mileage numbers only differ by 1 mpg on each end of the range. Still, it seems that the V6 will be sold more often than the V8, so demand will be higher for V6. Right?

I don't know really. Heck, I'm actually going against myself on this one because I just ordered a lovely satin silver metallic GT Premium with the red-accented interior. Chances are in 5-10 years it just might look dated and weird and may turn people off (thus lowering the resale value).

But I actually love things that are dated, and I love things that are weird. I'm not buying my car to resale it later. I'm buying it to enjoy now. I'm gonna try and keep this car as long as possible with no thoughts on selling it... at least not now. If I were thinking of selling it later, then I woulda gone "practical" and gotten a V6 with a tame interior (like charcoal).

But nope, not this time. I went daring. And darn proud of my choice...
