why is my tach sticking?

I know this is probaly an old question but my tach is now acting wierd. I start the car up and my tach goes to 4000 and stays there. I have a 5" monster tach and its fine. I'm pretty sure its the tach itself in the dash. My question is there anyway of fixing the problem without replacing? thanks

Mine did that at 3,000.......as soon as the rpm's went over 3,000 the tach worked - but it went back to 3,000. I ended up taking the tach out and resoldering ALL the solder joints on the back. It's worked fine ever since.

wish I could help, but I have the same problem, except mine moves. It goes to the highest rpm I hit, and then sits there, and gradually works it way back down. I just did a white gauge install, and I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. Hopefully someone might know

no, you dont understand how easy it is, just go out and buy a new tach and slide it in, you can get a used one for like 5-10 bucks off dfwstangs.net.

I've fixed both of my cars ,and 3 other cars not including mine, takes about 45 minutes from beginning to end.

Well, it takes the same time and $5-10 less to fix it....but whatever. One thing I did find out, is that if your car was built 3/92 or later, the tach is different - and is also discontinued by Ford. Figures.....mine was built 6/92.....
