Just wondering, wouldn't this be a good idea since theres alot of Autos out here? Or is there complications to it? I would like to someday put 4.10's in my car, but its an auto and dont feel like buying a chip that costs alot, and fairly i don't trust any "speed shops" out here which concentrate mostly on imports and such. Although it sounds tempting, bump timing and such at the same time with a chip, but as stated above, trust and cost is a main concern, because it is my only car and dont want some weirdo messing it up.

I dont think it would shift right. Isnt the shift pattern based on rpms alone? Without adjusting the shift pattern for the 4.10s I'm not sure it would be that great...?

I believe that if you put gears in the auto the car will still have the original shift points for the 3.27 gears. So, when you put 4.10's the shift points will be the same as 3.27 so the car won't shift right. The mileage is tracked by the computer controlling the auto tranny. The computer needs to be changed to that specific gear.

That's why I got a Superchips Micro Tuner. It is supposed to correct the shift points, speedo/odometer for gear changes. It also bumps your timing like a timing advancer, but you can opt for the 87 octane program and keep it stock.

Of course I am now so broke that I can't afford the gears...

Hey, I also got the Superchips Micro tuner..it did adjust my speedo when i put the 4.10's in ( yes i have an auto Mach1), but how does it work to adjust the timing...most it has in there is raise the speed limiter, shift points, shift firmness, what kind of fuel to run, and the temp @ which your fan comes on...but can't figure out how to advance the timng...

o wow, i this all really makes sense, kinda feel stupid in a way because of the manual shifting and the autos have programmed shifting. but thanks all. and as for the micro tuner thing, thats what i mean by expensive, id rather buy the nozzle kit than buy the gears, pay for install, then buying that thing which is way expensive. it almost adds up the same

And WTF happened to the website? Update?? damn, i leave the house for a while and the world moves on without telling me :nonono: :p

Yeah. I think I like the new look...

Back to the topic though... the chip and gears made my car a a completely different animal. The JMS chip dramatically improved the part-throttle shift pattern of the car, and my shifts are very firm now. The 4.10s are an amazing improvment to the auto - keeps you in the power band, so you dont have those bogging-down-in-2nd moments anymore.

This has already been touched on but heres the whole story.

For 94 to 98 manuals and autos you couldnt change the speedo in the PCM, you could only use a different driven gear or an electronic adapter. Plus you had spearate sensors for the speedo (the VSS sensor) and the tranny output shaft speed (the OSS sensor). SpeedCals work fine on those autos.

In 99 Ford deleted one of the two sensors on the autos and used only the OSS to read output shaft speed and derive speedo from it. You can in fact put a SpeedCal on this car and recal the speedo, but it will totally screw up the output shaft speedo fed into the shift program. Plus, you're probably gonna want to play with shift points and things anyway so more than likely you will need a chip or reflash. Then the SpeedCal is redundant in this application anyway.

So the SpeedCal will really work on ANY car to recal the speedo. However for 99 and up auto cars it just isnt the right way to do it as it really messes with the shift program in an adverse way. Plus since you'll probably want to play with the shift program its redundant. Hope this clears it up.
