Looks like factory lube, but it also looks like the gear is all fouled up. How easy was it to get to that, my ODometer is not working as well either..

Yeah the teeth on there are toast.

I put in a whole new cluster, because niether the tach or the odo was working. I just replaced the whole thing with a cluster out of a 94 cobra. The entire removal, install, and hunting down sockets only took me 1/2 hour. When you get the cluster out of the car, it comes apart very easy. If my dumba$$ can do it, anybody can.

I think Ill try to fix it and just have it as a spare or maybe sell it.

That is factory grease. JFYI- you can also unhook the odo if you get to that point. There is a little plug that simply unplugs from the odo motor, or so I have heard....

Yep, I have the same yellow stuff on my cluster when I replaced both gears last week. The job is not hard, just take your time & you should be able to do it on less than 2 hours your 1st time.

I see the new cluster has just 113K on it (i.e. low mileage 4 our cars). Does your car currently have more or less miles than 113k? Just a note: you may want to keep track of the original miles just in case you sell your car down the rode. You legally can't sell it without disclosing the facts (i.e. actual mileage etc). You can get in a bind if it is determined that you altered the odometer and did not disclose to the purchasing party. Just One Man's Opinion. Peace
