Wideband sensor

Help please,just got an innovate wideband and need help locating the sensor. Does it have to go in front of the first cat (closest to the header) in a stock exhaust system? There's only about 2-3" there and seems like it might overheat the sensor. Sure could use some advice.

it should be mounted before the cats and atleast 18 inches from from the nearest exhaust port.

Guys help!! Can I install the sensor after the pre cats and have it read correctly?
