Me and my pops was talking about 289s. We was wondering how much a 289 will take. My bigblock is coming out this year and is going in another car. We are putting a .060 289 with stock rods and crank. Comp 280 magnum cam. Heads will be 66 289 or gt40ps and the intake is a torker. I have a eddy rpm plate kit for it and see if we can get it in the 10s. The car is a 85 mustang with a ford 9in rear with a 3.70 gear and a c4 tranny. So will the 289 make it?

I might have to take you up on that. Before I put the bigblock in there I had a stock 302 with a F cam and torker intake with a 100 shot with a c4 and 3.08 gears went a blistering 14.48 on the motor and 12.50 on the juice. Now the car has better suspension and a 3.70 gear with a 9in rear. Im guessing with a 200-250 hit it will go the number.

You'd be lucky if the block doesn't split, if you were to throw a 200 - 250 shot through it. I just don't see a "stockish" 289 coming anywhere near the times you are looking for.

Its a c5 block NOT a roller. The old blocks will take alot more abuse than the roller ones. These blocks will take 550-600hp and that will push a fox past 10s.

you're not going to make 550-600 hp with p heads and a mild intake combo. sounds like a fun car anyhow.

289s and 302s are high rev engines, not really known for high HP, not that they aren't capable of it. I don't see how a 289 could make 10s. The castings weren't designed for much over 450hp and that's kind of pushing it a little. Again it'll take it, but not long. 350HP is practical and 140 over stock... with spray, mid 11s sure, but soon to come blown engine, 10s, if you gt one run ill be surprised lol
