Make the exhaust sound a lot better, and still allow me to pass emissions?

Getting sick of this 6 cat crap. Without MIL elims, will it cause the motor to throw a code?

Also, what is the best aftermarket to get (bang for the buck?) Not looking to go broke, just want a better sound. Any URLs?

I'm going for emissions in August. I don't have MIL eliminators and have yet to throw a code for it, so you should be fine. Running Magnaflow Catted-X.

I dont have one yet but have been shopping around and the best deal seems like the mustang tuner x pipe that goes for about $270 I think it was for the catted. Its good quality also and the same style as the magnaflow and slp rather than the weaker bassani x pipe(my opinion).

MRT stainless catted H get's my vote (not the cheapest though @ $460)
http://mustangracing.mrt-direct.com/hpipe.php

The Mustang Tuning catted X is only $270, but with such small cats, I really wonder how well they work. (their site says MILs are recommended)

Does your county/state also have a visual inspection, in addition to the sniffer test?

Can't go wrong with a Magnaflow catted X...

I had the chance to hear a 99 GT just after installing a Magnaflow catted X-Pipe and Flowmaster 40 mufflers. It was simply the meanest, baddest, and most hostile exhaust note I ever heard on a street car.

But this guy may face some problems with emission laws in CA...

Aftermarket catted pipes may or may not throw the P0420 and P0430 DTC's for low cat efficiency. Magnaflow appear not to throw codes, but with Bassani and others, it's the luck of the draw. The bottom line is don't purchase MIL Eliminators until you start throwing codes. Then, get the codes scanned. If the above codes pop up, spring for the MIL eliminators.

i've got a 2 cat x midpipe in my '00 GT and it has a great sound to it with the stock mufflers in.. not sure on the brand though since the previous owner was the one who put it in..

i passed NY emissions no problem and have yet to throw a code.

I've got the MRT catted H-pipe, very nice, stainless steel unlike most others, never thrown a code.

yes, it will sound better. and as long as you dont live in california, chances are emissions you'll have no problem with.

as far as needing MILs, give it a try. most of the time, you should be fine, unless the cats are really small, or really ineffective (rare). And hell, if you throw a code, throw on the MILs. No big deal.

Another vote for the MRT catted H-pipe. Sound, fit and finish are great!
