Will an old Distributor work??

My '83 doesnt run, gets gas but no spark...At one time it was a TBI v6, but has been replaced with a 302, and theres a mess of wires under the hood...Right now it has an electronic distributor on it, with a ignition module that I think is fried...So I think I should just remove the distributor and trade it in for a regular vacuum advanced distributor, but I dont really know much about wiring so Ive come here to ask you guys what all I need to do...Where do I wire the coil to??....Is there anything I need to replace??...Im just thinkin that im gonna put in the new dizzy, hard wire it and hope it will fire, do you think that will work???

Im planning on doing this today so I need the info ASAP, Thanks in advanced

For ultimate in simplicity, a HEI dist for a ford has minimum wiring. You need to know if you have a roller motor or not to get the right dist gear. Summit has a drop in kit for a ford for 225 with the roller steel gear in place.

As long as you are carbed, you can go with whatever you want. I find adding a duraspark ignition is fairly easy, but I am good with wiring.

Im on a very tight budget, and actually the car is for sale right now for $500, but I had a friend offer me $700 if it was running, so I thought if I could hard wire a regular distributor then it would fire....So your telling me that it will work?? I dont need to replace anything else?

A properly wired Duraspark is what you want. This needs a 12 volt wire from the ignition to the coil for start, and then ignition run power through a ballast resistor for the run position. Nearly any Duraspark 2 box and coil will work. Not sure how to wire a tfi to run carbed. Your 83 may have the correct wires already to the coil. If so, then all you need is power, 12 v, in both start and run to the Duraspark module.

If you have to buy one, get a Duraspark ignition module for a 77 to 79 Ford F150 with any v8, 302, 351, 400, etc. The cheaper the better.

Not sure if this helps, but I am not sure TFI works well without the computer.
