Will my rockers always make noise?

So will they? I mean, it's not the loudest noise ever, but I do hear them with the hood open. Reason I'm asking is I can hear mine and 3 people have told me that it's normal. Is it?

Damn, you've got the same exact set-up at i do except for the tri-ax and shorties(i've got l/t). So then it's normal? What valve springs do you have?

i can hear mine too, and i was worried about it. my mechanic, who does LOTS of work on mustangs (all years), said it was normal. he has worked on all my mustangs, he drives a 5.0 fox every day, and every time i go over there, he has at least one mustang either in a bay or in the queue to be worked on.

now i'm not worried about it as much

hey nacho, have you been back to the dyno since the t5 swap? i might have some numbers on saturday. im going to the track for a ford vs chevy show and i heard they will have a dyno. i dont remember who it was but recently someone dynoed a cobra with an e cam and put down 268 hp and just over 300 tq.

420, no. I haven't returned, I want to go to see what I'm putting down. It should be very similar to the numbers you posted. It would be awesome. Your times gave me a "more or less" of what my car should be running.

They ain't gonna be as quiet as the oem steel stamped rockers.

As long as they all are making the same noise, its good to go.

If you can hear what sounds like one or maybe a few making a pretty pronounced noise, you then need to hunt it down and make the noise go away.

If the one or two making noise is rather faint, the prob is not as severe but still, I'd look at why its happening.

Some valvetrain noise is normal. Excessive is not.

Youbel, it's coming along man. The tranny swap really woke the car up, what a difference.

A guy from a local shop told me that the engine should be quiet as a mouse like Keith mentioned. I've spoken to several guys here, and they also say that it's normal. I'm going to play it safe and replace my lifters. My oil pressure is fine but I just want to have peace of mind. The RR go torqued down to 15lbs right? The guy who helped me install them just told me to torque them down as much as I could. I told this to another local mustang guy, and he told me that I probably messed up the spring in the lifters because it was too tight. He's helping me install them, so what do you guys think?

Ped rockers are all about oem specs.

Thats why Ford made em in the first place.

Ford knew every 5.0 motor is gonna be the same ... give or take a tiny bit. That being said ... The assembly line tech could just bolt em on ... no checking necessary.

Us hot rodders ... We change everything
sooooooooooooo
that means you just can't ....... bolt em on and expect it to be correct.

You use shims or different length pr's to make the valve train geom as it should be.

btw ... You can't tighten them too tight or they could be damaged

The shims go between the rocker pedestal and the pedestal retainer rail. They lift the pedestal and rocker off the seat by a few hundreds of an inch depending on which you use. The rail is already about .060" and you will use either .030" and/or .060" shims to adjust your valvetrain geometry from there.

There are a few things to check, mainly the position of the roller on the valve stem and the lifter preload. You need to shim the rocker so the roller's full range of travel is centered of the tip of the valve stem. From there you check your lifter preload. If you have between .020" and .060" you are good to go. If it falls outside that range you need different pushrods.
