I just talked with the Ford Racing Hotline, and there is NO windage tray in the 3v engines. But, there is a windage tray available for the 4.6 block (same block is used for 2V and 3V). So, it could be put in our S197's. BUT, you gotta pull the engine to install (or maybe drop the whole K-member?). I don't know which is worse.

It may provide a gain of some horsepower at the top end when the revs are high.

True, maybe the guys at FRPP don't know what's going on. I guess I don't either. I had read a year or so ago that the new 3V engine did have a windage tray, but I'll be darned if I can find the article to back up that statement. So, other than dropping the pan on my car (which I'm not going to do) I can't claim proof one way or the other.

The windage tray is a good idea because they have some fins that help to keep the oil in the sump from drowning the crankshaft and making the rotating parts work harder with more mass (oil) on them. Most racing cars will have such things. Moroso and maybe Granatelli and a few other manufacturers make the parts. They're fairly cheap, but tricky to put into our Mustangs. In Ye Olden Dayes, you could drop the oil pan and replace it with one having a windage tray in your driveway.
