Windows Binding...Help

I took my 86 Mustang to a body shop today to get an estimate on them fixing my windows. They bind badly when going up and down (electric) and sometimes I have to persuade them to come up. I took the panel off and they need help. The shop said it would be best to just replace the doors instead of him going inside to fix the problems. Any advice or suggestions, the area inside the door is tight. I don't think it would be a fun job for me to tackle myself. Help

Keeping this at the top. My widows are getting funky too.

He probably said to get new doors because he doesnt want to waste his time doing it.

Hi all,

My windows started needing help and would sometimes refuse to go up all the way. I found that the guide rail in the center of the door had it's grease gell and wasn't letting the windows move easily. All I did was clean off the old grease and apply silicone dielectric grease....all I had on hand...now my windows work just like new I had previously replaced the runners and that didn't help but now they seal better though.

you need new rail bushings....the square ones...

In my case the square plastic bushings were fine. The grease was just really really hardned....more like glue than grease. Cleaned them, greased them, now slicker than snot

i dont know about four eye stuff, but have played on the 88. choppiness to me, sounds like the above mentioned rail bushings. on the 88, they are metal with rubber inserts. one on top, one on the bottom. if they are loose and the rail is not greased, there are tight spots of binding and such, and the jumpiness. steel wool and good grease on stuff really helps. with the door panel off, you should be able to run the windows up and down and see where it is binding up while watching for binding or slop (causing binding). i greased the heck out of it all in there. people say dirt will stick to the grease. well, there was no grease in there, stuff was rusty and not flowing smoothly. i would rather have grease with some surface dirt than rusty stuff in there. i clean them up whenever the door panels are off.

BTW, again, i dont know about similarity, but getting to that stuff is tight, but not bad. there are also plastic bushings on the bottom of the window. if they are loose, when the window catches, they allow it to tilt sometimes.

Hey thanks fellas, this has really been driving me crazy because the windows are so bad I dont want to start on the other parts of the car. Thanks again can't wait to get at them.
