My windshield wipers will occaisionally turn on to the intermittent mode even though I never touch the switch. I'm assuming I need to replace the switch or maybe even the entire stalk. Has anyone ever had or heard of this problem before?
How do I get the damn thing off to replace it?
This is embarrassing...its hard to look cool when the windshield wipers come on and its not even raining.

Wiper problem

I've had this happen on two GM cars that I have owned and it's always been the wiper motor and not the switch. I had a 94 Z28 that always seemed to come on when I took a left turn.

Thanks, I never thought of that. Sure would suck to replace the switch and still have the same problem.

My Ford Ranger used to do that. It's fairly common according to Ranger message boards. Yea, replace the switch.

It is common, it is absolutely the switch not the motor.

That must be quite annoying.

My 99 GT did this too, they changed the entire turn signal/wiper stalk out under warranty. No problems since

Don't know why it would be the motor. It cannot randomly get power whenever it wants to. Another vote for the switch.

the multifuntion switch is most likely the problem I have seen this happen to many fords, not just mustangs.

the guy saying it's the motor on gm cars is right about GM cars. they use a different setup where the motor contains the "brains" of the system and in those cars what he is saying is possible.
