Winter Is Coming!?!

okay, so i am going to end up SELLING my car IF i can't figure out a good way to get traction for winter :-( . The Truth is even in rain i feel unsafe like the back will slide out. i mean thats just how these cars are. My car is newly lowered this winter with alignment. Plus you should know i just got a stick installed so the car is even faster. I didnt have much trouble last year cause i drove careful with my AOD, but now times have changed.....Anyway, my mom suggested putting 250lbs worth of weight set in my back so im going to do that.... my tires are the fairly new i got rim and tire package a year ago but they were the cheapest kind.............I WAS WONDERING what i can do so i dont have to sell my car...so i'll feel safe? MegaBiteJR. control arms? New tires?.... i am getting brand new front brake rotors and pads on saturday.....i would be willling to spend like 500-600 to make my car feel better for winter so i can keep it and drop a 347 in next spring......the main issue isn't this fall...its january...february where in seattle it gets below freezing....black ice, etc

These cars aren't exactly made for winter driving. my advice? Take that 5-6 hundred and buy your self a winter car. There are obvious things you can do like add weight, get an "all-season" tire or winter tire. High performance or ultra high performance simply will not cut it in the snow or even small ice patches , period.... Factor in the price of tires and gas savings plus the added wieght. I wouldn't recommend to anyone to drive a fox in the winter. It is just not practical and when the rear-end kicks out it doesn't matter how much weight you have in the rear. You're still going to slide around. IMHO.

thats what i wanted to do but my mom is HELL BENT on not owning 3 cars...cause she owns the stang i only pay 100$ a month for insurance so thats out of the question

yeah, just buy the biggest ugliest pos you can find to last you through the winter. bigger better brakes are not gonna help you in the snow and ice. i just bought an 86 dodge 600 that runs great and has a/c and heat for 400 bucks. it looks like dookie but the interior is nice and it runs good. good luck

ps. just saw the post on your mom not wanting another car. just get a job at a jiffy lube or something. that way you get money to pay for another car and help out your mom. and you will get oil changes and every other maintenance thing for basically nothing. trust me, working at oil change places pays off in the long run.

if you have to pay for everything (like some of my friends) than more power to you. but you need to find a better paying job. i know its hard to find a good paying job in a college town because ive been there and didnt make ****. be a waiter or bartender. just save as much as you can so you can get a beater for the winter. i personally have never had a problem in two winters with my 5.0 but i was in greenville nc which is basically like the beach so the winters werent anything. im moving to charlotte so i bought another car to ride around in

(sigh) i am trying to get a 10.50$ an hour job at home depot... i mean i guess i could save up 1000$ and if i crash just repair it...i mean im not planning on totalling the thing... anything i did would prolly just be body related...although u never know

dude, honestly...where youre located, i wouldnt even want to drive my stang in the winter. after all the time and money youve spent on making that thing like it is you would cry if you wrecked it...not to mention you would be out of a car for a while. just try to get a job at home depot or somewhere that you can save enough money and buy a junker. it doesnt even have to run good....it just has to last you through the winter so you can save up all next year to get a decent car to drive.

haha, youre lucky...i was gettin paid 6.75/hour at jiffy when i worked there in high school. i was working close to 40 hours in high school and close to 60 hours during the summer. needless to say i blew it all on pointless crap. im gettin 8.50/hour right now and i have to pay $80 car insurance every month for my two cars and i have an $800 credit card bill and i need to save atleast $3k before i go to school in january. so how is that for saving some money.

im about to get a raise to 9$ cause i know how to do everything there (been there for a year).......i live in seattle, wa....its below freezing usually for about jan- and feb when it snows and gets dangerous...this year the forecasters say we're supposed to have a MILD winter...which is what im praying for...but u know weather forecasters (almost never right)....sooo

after seeing this thread, wondering if anyone drives their fox during the winter in colorado? i've thought about getting a junker as well, but i don't get paid **** ($0/hour) so it's not really an option. you guys think i could last the four/five months off and on snow with my 5.0?

What the hell? I drive my car in the snow every year and it's just fine. I put 4 winter tires on and drive like a sensible being....It's not that hard. And if anyones afraid to drive in the rain, just because they have a little bit of power then I suggest two things: Get better tires, and learn to drive.

i've driven a 90 firebird in the snow, with some added weight in the back and never had a problem, but all these people say don't drive your fox in the winter this is the first winter to own the car so i dunno.

Just Put full coverage on it and drive it. Just wash it once or twice a month so the salt doesent eat it alive.
