wire for 12 v dash light

Under the dash on the driver side, there's your fuse box. Take a test light and put the "grip" to a good ground. Take the cover of the fuse box off. Now point the test light on every fuse under there. Those who are "lighting" the light are NOT good. You need to find one that is OFF when the key is off. Now turn the key ON. You need to find one from the ones that were earlier OFF that is now "lighted" or whatever. Take that fuse out and put your wire around one of its "pins". Put it back in the box and voilà !

I disagree -- I think you'd be better off finding one the fuse for the dimmer switch. For example - in Foxes, it is fuse #13. If you use that fuse for the lights in the AutoMeter gauge, it will function with the lights and dim with the dimmer switch.

Using a fuse like you suggest, the light will be on anytime the car is on and you will have no control over it.
