What is this wire for?

No mention of what year Mustang; the wiring changed several times between 1979 and 1995.
No mention of what engine type - 4-6-8 cylinder engines all used different engine wiring harnesses
No mention on what harness you are working with for each connector/wire set. There are different harnesses for engine mounted EFI, main computer harness, under dash harness, front body harness, rear body harness.

When you post electrical questions, you need to do two things:
1.) Include the wire stripe and colors, like blue/red. First color is the solid color and the second color is the stripe. Color photos don't work well, since each computer reproduces colors differently.

2.) Always show the face of the connector where it plugs into its mating component

Answer all the questions and I will try to help.

That is generous. It is not an easy job as 20+ years under the hood can make telling colors tricky.

1991, V8, main wiring Harness. i will get some color info shortly. Just wondering if from said pictures; anyone can tell where the corresponding plug in is. granted some sub wiring might me missing, trying to get the car running, it should mainly plug into engine componets. A/C, EGR, Smog pump are all Deleted.

287- airbag sensors (these are white)
288- left/right airbag sensors (smaller white)
289- computer harness to dash harness connector
290- ground, A/C harness, coil connector, and what looks like unused DRL (daytime running lights)
291- 86 02 harness, smaller round connectors go to o2 sensors, other end goes to connector by MAF
292- see 291
294- EGR position sensor, TPS
295- smaller are TAB & TAD solenoids, and rectangular is EGR solenoid (mounted on rear passenger strut tower
296- see 295
Need correct o2 harness (91-93 and specific to transmission) ESPECIALLY if using A9L
I have these available reconditioned
Hope this is helpful, please feel free to contact directly if I can be of further help
