I ordered a 150 amp alt., since the addition of my electric fan has made my charging system a little weak. I haven't received it yet, but I figured I'd run my 4 gauge wire and fuse ahead of time, so I could have as trouble free an install as possible when I do receive it. Well the only thing I removed was the battery and the battery tray to mount the fuse underneath.
Note: The 4 gauge wire isn't hooked up to anything, I was just running it.
Anyway, I go to start the car and all I get is rapid clicks. So I figure maybe I killed the battery. I put a charger on it and it just clicks faster. So I figured maybe it was the starter, but then I noticed something. When the key is in the accessory position (back) the radio works fine, but when I turn the key forward it starts cutting out.
So I'm thinking I have a short somewhere, but after 2 hours of regrounding all the wires grounded by the battery and wiggling every wire I could get my hands on, I've still got nothing. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to start troubleshooting this problem? I've got a multimeter if that helps.
