If you ask me, it doesn't have to be the 4th of July weekend for 26 to be considered the worst bottleneck..... I've been on 26 at midnight on a Tuesday and the traffic slowed to 20MPH for no apparent reason.

Yeah that freeway is the worst. You get an accident on it, and both lanes slow to a crawl. Somettimes the slower lane is the one on the OTHER side of the highway. Damn rubberneckers.

I used to make pretty good coin off that highway though, when I was driving for Hillsboro Towing. No shortage of high paying accident calls out there!

Funny thing -- at about 6:30PM, 26 westbound between Portland and Jackson School Road was like a ghost town. Maybe it was bad in the mountains, but in the metro area it was empty.

Funny thing about Jackson school road.

In about 1996, some lady flew by me on the way to work on hwy 26 and slammed into a dodge truck going across 26 at Jackson school road. After the smoke cleared (and the lady was ALREADY on the phone with a friend's lawyer) and I was talking to the guy in the Dodge he showed me some stuff he had in the back of the truck. Posterboards!

He lived on JSC road, and had been petitioning the county about this intersection. He was on his way to a presentation he was doing in the county on the dangers of this intersection, and how they should build an overpass (which they are now doing). I couldnt help but laugh at the irony.

"Sorry I'm late guys, I got in an accident on the way here"

I take Jackson School Road every day ... it's much better since they restricted it to only westbound left turns across 26. I think the new overpass is supposed to be finished this fall. They're definitely making good progress on it now. I hope they don't put ramp lights there...

I think O3shkr is absolutley right...26 in either direction bites! Once you get past 185thwb traffic lightens up quite a bit. I live in Forest Grove and work off of Cornell & 185th. so I don't have to deal with traffic going to work or going home. Of coursre I don't work in the summer(no school-bus driver not needed :D ). However, when school starts back up traffic will definitly be an issue. :notnice:
