working with fiberglass

I goofed around with some stuff my dad had laying around. Then I jumped in and went for it. I just finished laying up the center console. I have a bit of shaping to do before I lay down the final layer and gel coat. I will post some pics in the morning. Next is the spare tire sub enclosure. Too cold now to even think about it for now. ( it's been in the negative numbers here in Colo.)

kick panels with speakers in them? I dont know about the market for them, but they have been around for years and years. The hours that you will have in making them and the cost of materials (about $50), you will have to begin to weigh that against the cost that you could buy new.

yeah, it was cold here too, must've been at least 68-70*.....damn winter :(

Bastard! I used to live in SoCal- San Diego. Gowd do I miss it. I would move back now that I am divorced but I would miss my son way too much. Sorry OT.

I think I will be doing the wire frame on the sub enclosure today. I will post some pics on it, and the console I have been working on, later today.

The first set costs some money, the next sets are much less if you do a mold of the first one. Layup is very quick at that point. Go a step further and make a die for hard plastic and the cost overall would be cheap. The trick is making something everyone will want.

I definitely know what your sayin'... but "iskwezm" has done some pretty slick stuff. I for one would have wanted to put 6's in my molded kicks but 5 1/2's were all that would fit, and the angle is all messed up. If my console works out ok, I will most likely make some new kick panels to match. ??? No reason not to improve on a good idea. Squeeze all you can my friend.

I understand what your saying about cost to profit there, but until you buy a set of the ABS panels, you dont know how they dont fit, sound like crap and the "premiuim" speakers they sell for a extra $100 bucks, cost me about $35 bucks. I fugure i can make a panel that will have "some" staging instead of the speaker facing your ankles and also use a better speaker....since i buy from a distributor, i get them WAAAAYYYYY cheaper then most people can buy them.

Oh, im not looking to make it rich, just make a better a product and a little money to cover cost and time.

just be careful if you start making stuff and sell it or even THINK about selling it here. The stangnet Nazi patrol will zap it in a minute and you will get some nasty PMs. There is always someone that gets a bug up there butt when someone tries to help others out.

Good luck with your project...post pics!
