WOW IM MAD!!!!!!

ok so i grew up an avid chevy lover... got back from my first 14 month deployment in december and me and my wife decided i diserved to reward my self..... i went out expecting to buy a used camaro firebird or mustang.... we get to the ford dealer and decide to look at the new stangs. mind you its december of 08 so all the 09s are out. we walk up on a beautiful 09 45th anne. with the glass roof and red interior and just fall in love. being a car guy i figure hey great investment its got almost all options its the 45th and the glass roof some day could be a collector car. i love the car as a whole but the longer i have owned the car the sicker i get with the quality. comming from a chevy guy i have to say ford built one amazing car but they really lack in the paint department. owning the car 6 months i keep noticing chips in the paint and the engine compartment is horrible what happened to quality paint jobs????!!!!!! the paint under the hood is so thin you can see the yellow primer underneather and like i said paint chips keep apearing. im not trying to piss anyone off i just need to vent. i love the car just the fact that it is going to need a paint job way before it should makes me sick. someone over at ford needs to step it up in that department.

It's a lot better than the paint they were putting out in the 90's and earlier, but I agree. They could definitely go thicker.

Otherwise, the S197 is leaps and bounds (in quality) above the SN95's and priors.

ya dont get me wrong the car is amazing has awesome power and the chassi is amazing the just really missed the mark on paint..... i will proly use the money from my next deployment to get it repainted and go with a base coat and several layers of clear coat instead of single stage lol

I agree on the paint - I haven't noticed some of the issues you mentioned (like seeing the primer), but on my 2000 Mustang, I had it for 7 years and 30k miles of lots of highway driving and when I was on local roads, they were usually pretty sandy since I lived on the beach. I got one stone chip on the hood the whole life of the car. In the 20 months I've owned my 2008, I've driven 11k miles and have a couple stone chips on the hood down to the aluminum and several on the front fenders, especially right next to the headlights. It is a bit disappointing. Hopefully they did a little better on the 2010's.

i am thinking of having this special coating applied to my front end, cant think of what its called, it starts with an S.

i was sanding a buick today with 800 grit getting it ready to blend, and i was sanding and sanding, wiped off the dust, and it was still shiny. took me a while to finally get it to be ready.

Oddly, the paint is the one thing that I haven't had a problem with yet. My vista blue still shines like it did when I bought it new.

Now if we were talking about firewall grommets leaking water into the interior, wheel centercaps breaking and falling off, seized brake calipers, faulty TPMS sensors, broken window motors, that would be another story. All have happened (some multiple times) on a car with only 13k on the clock

I have lots of chips on my hood, the factory paint is cheap, one of the ways ford keeps costs down. I plan on having it repainted at some point.

Ouch. That's some bad luck. I never had any of those problems with either of my S197s.

I don't know about all Fords but the mustang is notorious for thin paint at least on the top of the car.

You should have seen my 4 year old laser red 98 GT. It was laser red on the sides and pink on top. (faded)

My 06 is garage kept and the roof and trunk lid look to be fading. Just replaced the hood with a steeda cowl induction so no problems there.

Make sure you wax the car good at least once every 6 months.

Yes, chips behind the fender flare from road debris is almost impossible, but Ford managed to accomplish this feat with their thin-arse paint. Actually, I thinkl the problem is a very soft clear coat, but the paint has to be very thin also to allow that type of damage. on paint thickness... on performance from a puny little 281.

+1 my car will also get a respray at some point. That's why first thing I do when I walk out of a dealership is stop at parts and get the paint chip tube which I use about once a month to touch up the specs.

Paint or no paint the car I'd say does about average (way better then what I expected considering how flat the front is). The bad part of course is the lip on the hood because it's flat and takes the most abuse along with the bumper cover. My gf's 350Z front end is nothing but black specs everywhere from the hits it takes all the time and her car is silver. Just about the only way you can prevent that is getting one of those fugly bras or at the very least the protectant film.

I have a few paint chips on the front of my Mustang and it's about 2.5 years old. Frankly I'm surprised it only has a few given that I've driven it through 3 winters in upstate NY with incredibly terrible winters as a daily driver. A little touch up paint, a good hand wash and wax job and it looks like I just got it off the show room floor

Yeah the paint could be better....but ya know what...Mustangs are a LOT cheaper than a new Camaro....and nothing comes close to its performance for the money.

Take the 8-10 grand you saved and paint the ****er any color you WANT....as thick as you want too.

Coming from a Subaru WRX, the paint on the Ford is pretty good. The Subaru looked like it had severe acne on the hood, and yeah it managed chips on the side too. I put a protective film on my headlights this time (the Subaru looked like it had cataracts), but not on the paint. It's probably your best option.

+1 my parents have a Subaru. Great car but abysmal paint on it. It's basically onion skin peel thin.
