Got the Cobra R hood to latch today... and I changed the oil.

Now the car breaks up a couple minutes after startup.

Whats the deal???? Anything I could have hit and should check????

Kyle..
Can you be a little more specific than "breaks up"?

Feels like its missing on a few cylinders.
Mostly midrange... get it up to around 3k and it stops doing it.

Well,
Since you just got the car anyways, I would change the plugs and wires. Autolites 25. As you take each of the old ones out, check the gaps to see if they are ok.

Is there a chance that you knocked one of the wires off when you changed the oil?

The last time I changed my plugs...one of the wires was not seated all the way down and it did this.

Let us know.

When I had a misfiring plug, it would be choppy under load until about 3k RPM or so, and then it would take off like nothing was wrong. So like RC said, that would be a good first place to look...

I just fixed the same thing in the T/A.

Wound up being the A/F meter attached to the O2 sensor.

Anyway... I'll check the plugs tomorrow... probably have to do the damn wires as well since they look very stock and will probably break.

Kyle, check out Action Auto? Action Performance? over near US1 on International. They have some Ford Motorsports wires there for around $45. Don't get any wires from discount... I did that and ended up bringing them back that day because they were "universal fit" wires

The FMS wires arent the best, but I havent had any problems with the ones I have (just have to cut them a little if you want them to fit right because they are too long) but most on here don't like them.

After that I'll go home and change the plugs and wires. I might pick up a new cap / rotor while Im there. MSD parts decent????

MSD parts are decent. The color of the cap will match your car too I wanted one but didn't have the money at the time.

Since you mention that, also wouldnt hurt to clean the MAF and sensor, and check the O2's on the pipes.

I just recently changed my 02's, and I believe that most of our cars should have had them changed at least once by now...

But start with the plugs/wires first, since you'll want to tune it anyways!

I would check for a vacuum leak too. My car would sputter in the low RPM range and die after a while if I just had it idling in the driveway.

Ahhhhhh, right behind you at 107k. LOL. I think they might be the cause of my pinging problem. Oh wait, I just spent close to a grand on parts. I guess it must be the 87 cotane I can barely afford. Just went over $2 for the cheap stuff here in Chicago.

Zach and Numbles, When you do the power adders and start messing with the A/F ratios, you are likely to F,,,, up the O2's. I think that's what happened to me!

Kyle, you should take the car to OSW tomorrow and test it out

RC, I know I need some new O2's, I even said so I kept saying "OK, after I buy this I'm getting new O2 sensors." Well exhaust came and no O2's, intake came and no O2's, rims came and no O2, intake came and still no O2's and this was the point where I was like I REALLY NEED the O2's, then heads/cam came and still no O2's lol and now turbos... I dont think I'll ever get new O2 sensors
