So I think my clutch is ****ed. Drove 29miles in the morning over the weekend and stopped to take pictures. Then I launched from roll to 3500- 4000 but when I tried to shift into 2nd it didn't engage and I had to pull over. Car was spazing out (rough idling from 250-1000) and eventually died. Tried to start and it wouldn't. By the time I got back home from being towed, It worked again and I have been able to drive it since.

I read somewhere that if you wanna check if your clutch is slippery, at low speed put in 5th gear and push accelerator. in. if rpm's rev up and speed doesnt increase, then your clutch is slipping. In my case that did not happen. My car slowly got up to speed and rpm's slowly gained.

Side note to mention. I am hearing a chirp when in neutral and clutch is not pressed. When clutch is pressed even by the slightest bit it goes away. (herd that it could be the throw out bearing).

So do you think that this could have been cause of the throw out bearing rubbing on my whole ride out and got too hot when i tried to drive again from being parked? Apology for the grammar and long post! Thank you for all inquires!

The not shifting properly and the rough idle I don't think are related. How is it idling now?

My Throwout-bearing chirps as well. Down-side to those needle bearings, and is worst in the aftermarket TOB's.

Ford Racing has a desighn that looks to be a solid piece of metal; but still functions as a Bearing, which would the eliminate the propencity to chirp when heated.

Its possible that your clutch disk is on its way out, but when it gets heated slips to the point it won't grab the flywheel any more.

*Had my Ford Escort clutch completely fail on me on the highway and the egine sputtered and died, coasted to the side of the Highway.

Is that the stock clutch, are you the original owner of the Stang, how many miles on the clutch.

I'm trying to discern if it is your car's transmission or your actual clutch disk, hoping for clutch disk.

I am ruling out the Pilot-bearing b/c, that only comes into play once the Input shaft has connected in the center of the Flywheel via the Pilot-bearing.

Second owner and the used car dealership said " we change out the clutch cause the 3rd gear was having some issues, but i didnt get any proof of what they changed or put in to the car." Car has 118000 miles on it. If the clutch was changed then it would only have roughly 4-5000 miles on it. Would the best option to just change the clutch, throw out bearing and flywheel for oem parts and see if it works or take it to a dealership?

First, gears have nothing to do with the clutch. If the 3rd gear is bad, it is because the car's transmission is gone in that gear. What connects the car's transmission to the flywheel is the Input Shaft. The Clutch disk and pressure plate is attached to the flywheel.

If what you say is true then the dealership needlessly replaced the "Clutch" or replaced it to raise the car's price. Replacing the Clutch assembly is not gonna fix 3rd gear.

Sounds like your car's transmission is gonna go. Sometimes car's Transmission show symptoms; sometimes transmissions all of sudden stop shifting without warning.

Also, sounds like he slipt a disclaimer by you, so when the transmission blows; he can say, "I told you 3rd gear was bad."

From my knowledge, a badly worn clutch will cause a non-start issue, a bad throwout bearing will cause a lot of noise, but not a non-start.

Sounds like you need a new clutch and a "tranny" rebuild.

Was able to drive all over the island yesterday without any problems. Stopped several times, turned of the car, turned right on without hesitation.
