I am looking into buying a cat-less X pipe for my mustang. Its a 94 GT with a Borla catback and no other major mods. Does anyone have any soundclips of a similar setup? or opinions of what it might sound like?

Dont bother on opinions on this subject matter. Its not gonna help you any cuz some like me will say the sound will rule and others will say that the x pipe is too metallic sounding. I've had an x pipe and a prochamber and the x pipe is way louder and way more unique. I say just go for it. If you dont like it, buy somethign else and sell the X. I dont think you will regret it tho.

Here's a simple rule of thumb alot of people seem to follow these days for the best sound.

Chambered mufflers (flowmaster or such) Get a H-pipe.

Straight through mufflers (Magnaflow, Dynomax) get a X-pipe

I can tell you alot of people aren't too happy with X pipes and flowmasters The X-pipes also have a somewhat more "exotic car" sound to them. Personally I perfer H-pipe.

my two cents

I have a 94 coupe and a 95 convertable both GT's. I also have a bassani x-pipe on both with stock headers and two chamber 40-series flows. I have never heard a stock 5.0 sound any better. FYI, I had a h-pipe on my 93' GT and don't get me wrond it sounded bada**. But I think the x sound better.

I beg to differ. I love the way my lontubes, x-pipe and flows sound. I've been getting nothing but compliments on it. Actually my car kinda sounds like a sportbike when I get on it hard. I love the sound. I WAS gonna buy straight-through mufflers before I put it on but I think I'm gonna stick with what I have because its different.....except for one of my boys cause he has the same exact exhaust setup.

Well I guess it's all a matter of preference, but about 75% of the people I know with X-pipes and flows don't care for the sound. But I've never been inside a car with that setup either

what you need to do is sell the Borla catback...buy a Bassani catback, and get a Bassani Xpipe...and have the best sounding car youve ever heard....

....now im gonna wait for the guys who always give me a hard time for praising Bassani all the time, to come flame me...

I like the way Bassani sounds, and their parts are of great quality. I think Bassani cat back + Bassani X-pipe = But I was never a fan of the Bassani catbacks with other midpipes though, Bassani obviously made those 2 pieces to work together.

I too had Flowmasters and an O/R X and LOVED the sound. I think that is more of another Stangnet myth that tends to float around. I really miss my '95 with that setup.

I had an off-road bassani x pipe w/2 chamber Flows on my '92 and it sounded great! It does sound unique, kinda metallic compared to the H pipes. I just installed a Magnaflow catted x pipe on my '95 which also has two-chambered Flows and it is more subdued due to the cats but still turns heads.

I don't know where the 75% guys are, but I love my X with 2-chambered Flowmasters

I've got MAC shorty headers, MAC O/R X-pipe, and a flowmaster catback and must say that it sounds awesome. Maybe its because I just came from having no crossover and glasspacks on my '65 which didnt exactly sound good.

Hmmm, I just know that the people I know here with X-pipes and flowmasters didn't care for the sound, and they also say the flows soundes like they had quarters in them rattling Like I said though guess it's a preference thing.
