I got a buddy with a 99 GT and he has an X pipe with (I believe) 3 chamber Flowmasters. I have 2 chambers on my fox, but this question is in regards to my 2003 GT. I love the 2 chambers with the offroad h on my fox, but am afraid the x pipe and 2 chambers will be far too noisy on the mod motor. Anyone got any personal experience with the Flowmaster and x pipe setup, 2 and 3 chambers?

Thank you all,

Chris

I had a catted X pipe with a Flowmaster origanal 40 series two chamber american thunder catback. It droned at and around 2K rpm. Some people
liked it and said it sounded different.I think if you get a X pipe get a
straight through designed muffler and if you get a H pipe get a chambered
muffler for sure.

You should go buy a Camaro or something then... The combo question wasn't asked to see if it sounded good, it was asked to see how loud it'd be.

I would expect that they would be comparable to your fox.

I've run just the flows, flows with catted x, flows with o/r h, slp 1's with o/r h and slp 2's with o/r h.

Flows with the o/r h has been my favorite in sound and loudness. Its right in the middle as far as loud goes.

Thanks for the good responses guys...

Saleen, you think Flowmasters are generic performance mufflers? I have never used anything other than them, nor have I heard and known that I heard Magnaflows, so I can't base a comparison.

it just depends on what type of sound you like, I like that muscle car rumble, so i would have went with a muffler like mac or flowmasters with an o/r h, but since i bought the car and it had a offroad x i decided to buy some 2 chamber flows just to see how good they sounded (found a pair for dirt cheap), and too me they sound great, theyre very loud, and have a nice deep tone to them.
personally i have never been a fan of magnaflow or borla or any of them, im not saying they sound bad nor am i saying they're not loud, because borla stingers are super loud. I am just saying im not a fan of them.

BTW, when muscle cars were muscle cars, Flowmasters didn't exist. These days the sound guys call the "muscle car sound" is the sound of 80's Pro-Street cars (or a pick-up truck)

if you want the real muscle car sound, Thrush Turbo mufflers (do they still make them?) or glasspacks are the way to go
