I am getting ready to but an new 347 stroker in my 89 lx and was wanting to do the exhaust from the engine all the way back to the tail pipes. So far I have decide on long tube headers and a catback kit from Flowmaster. The one component that I am having mixed emotions about is the X/H pipe. Just wanted to know some pros and cons with sound and power. Thanks guys!

i have always liked the sound of the h-pipe over the x-pipe. the h-pipe also helps make more torque. I like torque. i say go with the h-pipe.

The x-pipe will flow better, should make a bit more power, but I wouldnt sacrifice sound quality for a nominal figure of power. If you arent making insane numbers, I wouldnt worry about a few extra ponies. H-pipe has the nice sound imo.

x-pipe is more modern and raspy in tone.
h-pipe is more old school, muscle car tone.

The h-pipe will give you the classic Mustang tone, since that is what they have come with, since the beginning. H-pipes rule, plain and simple.

another vote for the H pipe

I find the X pipes sound raspy and harsh, like a small block chevy

Its really neither here nor there on your combo, I would be against running an O/R either. Especially with single chambers like I did. X-pipe with cats would be my choice for best flow, and the cats would help the back pressure a little so not to really hurt the low end.
