whats the difference? And which ones louder for exhaust???

For a classic muscle car sound that sounds great in the lower RPMs, choose H.

For a racecar sound that screams in the higher RPMs, choose X.

one of the most confused pipes. The very short version... The X-pipe makes more hp than the H-pipe for a simple reason. The x-pipe balances out the torque curve, the open area in the "X" creates a low pressure area improving exhaust scavenging this will create mor hp&tq ( how much depends on the "X" design...merge style x or stamped X crossway) than the H-pipe but the x-pipe has a more mild sound.

The h-pipe has a very small low pressure area and is more tuned to sound and is therefore louder ( giving that muscle car sound)than the x-pipe but doesn't have any real effect on hp&tq like the X does. I hope this clears anymore confusion on these pipes.

Use whatever you want for a mid pipe based on hp, it's not enough to make a fuss out of.
For sound, regardless of what anyone says: A. Your ears will adjust to the new sound B. Most of the time you can't tell the sound apart.

What will be different is the quality of the pipe.
Bassani Stainless is probably the best i've ever seen, and i've seen them all. I'd almost call it indestructable.

I have a bbk o/r x pipe myself and I love the way it sounds when I get on it. I've thought of putting on an h pipe for ****s and giggles and then switching back, but it's more of a pain to remove than I thought, so cancel that.

I myself am an H pipe guy. My cousin tried an Xpipe on his 03 Cobra and it was literally on ebay the next day lol. It sounded aweful on his car. It was BBK i think not 100 percent, but Im running a BBK H pipe"Shorty" and have no plans to ever switch!

Dr. Gas invented the x pipe. All those others that dont use two 90 degree bends mated together for the x arent true x pipes imo. They use a funny clamshell thing thats closer to the internals of a pro chamber than an x.

EDIT: I'm not sure if they actually invented the X, but i know for a fact they were one of if not the first company to market one for a Mustang.

I was curious so I did a little searching around, it does appear that Dr. Gas was one of/if not the first to market an x-pipe.

The HP difference between the two is negligible. Make your choice based on the sound difference. Listen to them on youtube and then decide. Personallly I've got a MAC off road H-pipe and dig the sound, fit and finish. X-pipes are a little too raspy for me.

This is a Bassanni "X pipe" but this to me is NOT an X, this is closer to an H IMO.

This is a Dr. Gas X pipe. This is now it's done.

By the way, apparently Spintech agreed as they use Dr. Gas X crossovers in their mid pipes...so essentially a Spintech X is a Dr. Gas X.

ive been running a bbk o/r x for two years now and it was perfect for what i wanted, gives me the grunt on the low end but that raspy mouth on the top end. little bit of cackle when you let off of a steep rpm band. i couldnt be happier.

The Dr. Gas X style just like 85_SS_302_Coupe stated is the best design. Kooks uses the same merge construction also
