That's my biggest pet peeve when driving. I'm a fast driver, but I don't get how people think it's ok to go around on the on-ramp and cut someone off getting on the highway.
I wish i drove a crappy car. I'd just outfit it in dash cams and let them hit me.

I think we were lucky to not get a Mustang III in 1979.
I to to prevent that problem by using the gas pedal and upgraded sway bars. I wonder why there are often panicked looking face prints on the inside of my car’s windows.
But the vinyl tops, ugly bumpers and colonnade styling of the Mustang II were not there. The car at least started out looking good from the lot, even with four eyes.
I will not argue that you found the ugliest one available, with even the Metric TRX wheels that were a pain to get tires for. All it needs are bumpers from an Escort.Wrong again. On every count.

In 1989 I decided I was going to buy a "sports" car. I first looked at the Camaro, but found out the cheapest way to get into a V8 was to buy an IROC and the biggest V8 I could get was a 305. So I looked at the Mustang and found out I can get a faster car for less money. I had that car for 12 years and never should have gotten rid of it. I've never looked back.#1 I ain't slow'n down on the coffee, Keurig is working on a intravenous coffee system
#2 the 1989 mustang was introduced with a few new colors, the 'batwing' mirrors for the vert and mass air for all, so no magazine was going to review them, the camaro was so anemic, heavy and the only V8 was the Z28 with, wait for it......wait for it... a wopping 170 hp!!! And it cost a bunch more too.
And the Dodge Boys didn't have, well, there was a program with turbo 4cyls that even shelby dabbled with but nobody cared.
#3 lets compare apples to apples, lets continue with the 1985 theme.
1985 300zx 0-60 7.2 sec, slightly heavier and cost more, a lot more, with a V6 and 220 hp it is the closest competition in america.
1985 toyota supra, I found that this one needed more research only because there are several versions, basically 16-18 k in price with 170hp and the best 0-60 time was 9.8 sec. A little lighter than the zx, I sure I could have found more accurate info but I'm making a point.
I chose these vehicles as they where the closest competition for the mustang market, I didn't spend a lot of time researching because the point I am making, to the one or two that are reading this is the 1985 mustang was stiff competition off the showroom floor.
Now for those that are going to compare 1985 (or pick your favorite fox body year) to newer cars, yes, even a prius is probably faster but it is not a fair comparison.
If you compare a mustang of any year, even the mustang ll, to their respective competition they are a force to be reckoned with.
So yeah, they were fast.

Hell, I was still selling them in the early 2000s at Advance. Those crappy-looking copies of the already ugly 80s F150 hubcaps too!You would be appalled at how many chrome wire hubcap sets I sold between 89 and 94 at Napa, Carquest and Autoworks. I am not sure why they were hot Items for so long.

My point is, the 79-81 cars were no real upgrade over the II, in any department, and were actually worse in some respects. 1982-84 made things interesting, but they neither looked good nor were truly "fast" until 1985. For all of Ford's marketing and forum fanboi revisionist history, the truth really is that simple.
