Paint and Body Fox Body Painting 101

Dave this ones for you . Worked In a body shop for 2 years . Mainly mechanical work but I did a fair amount of prep . Buddy of mine was ready to paint so I helped do his garage up then prep the car including masking it , cleaning it with prepsall and tack ragging it . Car is an 85 coupe . Shaved the bay , replaced the right rear section of roof , and shaved gas door with mini tub all in this garage followed by. A 10 pt bar . This was car completely down to bare metal . There was minimal filler used on this whole car . All the stuff was lead filled where things were shaved and repaired .

Gonna be a street car with a Toyota 2jz and a 6speed . Anyway on to the good stuff . PPG GLOBAL base and PPG concept clear . 3 coats of clear . Car was blocked yesterday and 2 more coats applied . Picture show a slight haze due to the plastic on the garage roof and walls . Once we removed it it was like glass . Orange peel is minimal . Hope you enjoy the pics bud . Color is 2013 mustang sterling grey metallic for all who wonder. No flake added just the way the code calls for it .

Dave... question...

Ospro... ever tried it, supposed to make rust inert. I need to try something to save my 72 vw bus while I build my shop... thanks
Not that one in particular. That type of converter works well though. Make sure you get as much of the rust scaling off the surface first. Sometimes it'll need an extra treatment as you work through the rusted area.

I used an Eastwood version of that for parts of the hatch that were mildly pitted with rust. I sanded, used a wire wheel and hand sanded first to get those areas cleaned from rust scaling.

It's pretty easy to use, but it won't soak through the rust and convert it all. You'll need to clean it up first.

Nice I was thinking of doing a 2JZ swap into my 92 Notch. Got discouraged after I got a couple of quotes from garages to do the swap. 1 guy quoted me 10k. Another guy quoted me 15k

I don't know what it is that makes the 2jz so incredible....... could be that its nearly indestructible, maybe the fact that it makes crazy power so easily, or the fact that even without cracking one bolt on the stock engine you can shovel 30+ psi down its TB...... nope don't see why anyone would consider that a good swap engine..... just jap crap.

guy here in Tampa has one in a viper red notch... glide, 80mm hair dryer, 250 shot on the hit, DRIVES the thing to the track. 1200hp pump gas..... STOCK 2JZ

2JZ's are bulletproof. That was my grand plan for my notch. Now I will stay with the 5.0, maybe do some forced induction on that

I was reading up on that 2jz Toyota engine, holy crap! Freaking japs had to come up with that little jewel.

I would still be hard pressed to put that in a mustang, probably due to my parents and relatives having participated in WWII. Lost an uncle on d-day (I know, Germans did that). Funny how parents opinions can effect a guy after they've been gone for twenty years.

I have this coldly logical side of me though that looks at that engine and thinks, "holy crapola! 2000hp on a stock six block!"

Get your buddy to post a build thread, please! What trans works with it?

Dave,
It seems to have been awhile since we have spoken..
I just wanted you to know....
I bought my first 6 pack of craft beer today...
All six of them went down smoothly..
Followed by 6-10 more of the "Usual" store bought beers...
Not sure where I'm going with this...
I may be Drunk....
I hated the mustang in F&F Tokyo drift cause it had a 2JZ...
But man was it fast....
Maybe those types of swaps ain't so Bad....

If I had given my post more thought I woulda remembered them pulling the motor from the smashed up Nissan to do the swap lol

I'm far from a purist-and I really appreciate the work it takes and the ingenuity needed to make those swaps happen-but I still get a little bummed when there's a Chebby in a ford , or whatever someone else is smart enough to make work lol

Ok, looked at the posts, what a bitchin' notch! Monster power! Over thirty PSI! Do I use "!" too much?!!!

Still got to stick with ford muscle though, I would feel too dirty with a yoda engine in a mustang.

What's you're name so I don't have to keep typing your whole screen name in?

Dave, my name is Tony. I think it's worse when I see a ford with Chevy power plant. That's sacrilegious!!

As Dave can attest too, if you are asking for an opinion or suggestion-I'll rattle off a bunch of em-but if you make the statement that you are installing an LS or 2JZ- then I'll just bombard you with questions and mention how much better it would be with wheel tubs :D
lol
