Regardless of the band, this is how I judge them ( and typically that criteria justifies whether or not I have it in my music collection)
If the old singer or band is still making new music and can fill a major venue when performing live
( think Bruce Springsteen here, the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac)
Then I own it.
If that singer or band has to play to a smaller venue, ( like a casino) or has to gang up with other has been bands to fill a medium sized venue ( like the Journey/Doobie brothers concert that just happened) then that says they lived their lives and people ( myself included) are done with them.
MOF, I would go as far to say that Journey probably needed The DB more than the DB needed them)
The 80's..... The birthplace of music that Lived and died with the CD.
I don't necessarily share your same sentiment, although it sounds like we have somewhat similar taste in music-somewhat.
I LOVE Journey. And the Doobies. Don't own a lot of their music, but still like them.
I like a broad range of music. You'd be surprised.
