My 302 has an alternator and the original ammeter. I have had it checked out at a shop and they say it is functioning. My problem is that the indicator movement is negligible, really hard to notice if it is charging or discharging. Is there any corrective actions that some of you may have come across.

Take a voltage measurement of your battery before you start the engine then start it and see what you get at the battery while running. It should be in the neighborhood of 13 to 14 volts at the battery and as high as 16v. While running turn other item on like headlights, radio etc. Your voltage at the battery while running should be at or above your before start voltage. This is not the most accurate way to test exactly what your putting out but it is a quick and easy test to confirm charging.
