Sorry, no extra pics due to work letting me know how needed I am while on vacation. You guys are both right. I actually set aside money for the "Super Awesome Dart Block Extravaganza Build" and actually have a shortblock picked out with all the trimmings. After days of deciding who was going to build it and working through the details I decided against it.
Now I know this is a total lapse in judgment as the misses told me "I don't care, I just don't want to know what you spend". Regardless of my urge to order half of the Summit catalog and get the shortblock I had decided on, I'm going with what I can salvage or will build a 306. Now I am not saying that a man can't get a hell of a lot of fun out of a balls out build, but ultimately is it worth the cost difference? In this case I've figured the difference to be about $10k after the new fuel system, transmission, clutch, etc, needed to support the previously planned build. Can I do it, yup...am I?...no. I realize that I am a big kid, won't get the joy out of it to justify the money, and will just start another project as soon as it is driving (already eying an 84 capri). So we will see if the Scat piece will turn, if not, I've got a lead on a 302 crank, and some good rods from my machinist buddy. Hell, I enjoyed that turbo on a stock 302.
The good thing for anyone reading is that a stock-block turbo build just means the writer will be doing another rebuild thread in a year or two. That's what we call "win-win".
