my instrument cluster has a low coolant light but it has never worked. there is no sensor on the overflow tank. it's a 90 5.0L lx.

was the coolant sensor an option or standard equip for my car? i thought that all 5.0's had the coolant sensor? was mine there at one time but now missing?

where is the harness for the sensor located at?

On the 87-89 cars..only the GT's had the coolant lights. The LX's have the wiring to make it functional, but only the GT's came fully equipped.

On the 90+ cars, i beleive it was either standard on all 5.0's are part of some package. Either way, you could get the light on a 90+ 5.0 LX

With the plug unhooked, the light won't function. So if you don't have the sensor in the cap, all you need to do is find a cap with the sensor in it and locate the plug harness somewhere in the front driver's side harness and plug it in

thanks for all the replies. i found that i do have the harness for it. it was tucked down by the battery and i couldn't find it at first.

i also read in my owners manual that all 90 5.0's had the coolant sensor.

not sure if i'm going to use it or anything, just wanted some clarification on whether i should have it or not. i thought i had heard at one time that only GT's had it and i basically wondered what the stipulation for it was.

anyways now i and hopefully others learned something. thanks
