Well, I have Flowmasters dumped right now and i want to change out to the quietest possible mufflers i can get. Right now i barely drive my car since i don't want all my neighbors to hate me for warming it up in the morning. but if i could get some quieter mufflers i think i would enjoy my car more often. If i could i would like to get some straight through mufflers since I will be putting my turbo on this summer but on the other hand i would be willing to give up a little horsepower for quieter mufflers since more power will only be a matter of turning up the boost. also i don't have cats either and i don't want to run tail pipes because i think it looks better without. I wouldn't mind running cats except i don't want all the emissions crap to go with them.

Also i don't mind loud at open throttle i just want it to sound as close to stock as possible at idle and cruising. Thanks in advance.

Pokageek's crusade right now is to find the most quiet and least droned-out mufflers out there. I might want to compare notes with him.

The Magnaflows that I heard awhile back were pretty quiet - might be worth considering.

Chris (Don John) has an exhaust note site in his sig - might be worth checking out.

Good luck Scott.

Ok, well my conclusions are that quietest muffler to buy is the Hooker Competition Turbo Muffler ($30 per muffler) or the 3 chamber DELTA flow flowmasters ($90 per muffler). HC sounds throaty at idle and quiet until stomped but by no means anywhere near as loud as the 40 series flowmaster.

For those of you that hate resonance, the 3 chamber delta flow is better than the hooker. I will sell you the hookers if you want for $20 piece and whatever shipping is like $12 or something(2.5"). You might want to grind down the welds a little before you put them on. 1 week old sold as is. paypal me at [email protected] if interested..Thanks.

Ill soon be putting on some Hooker muflers. not sure off hand what kind. but ill let you know.

I mean, no cats and no mufflers can only be fun for so long.

Im still waiting for it to not be fun. lol

This is from the faq stickie at the top of our forum. We need to update it. Looks like the hooker maxflow or the borla XS would be your best bet. For the price I would say the hookers.

I originally ran the American Thunder cat back on my car. After all the mods (HCI, LT, etc) it was just too loud for me. Couldn't order at the drive threw. So I swapped out whatever series came with the Am. Thunder for the next series up. I think that means I went from the 40 series delta flow to 50 series delta flow.

I like this much better now. WOT is perfect, barely gave up anything from the Am. Thunder's. Plus at idle and cruise, the noise and drone are tolerable (still definitely not stock sounding).

id go with some magnaflows...they are pretty tame at idle, and cruising, but when u get on it, its a whole new beast....they are VERY loud at WOT....not to mention they are straight-thru, so you wont loose any ponies..my buddy has them on his '90 347ci fox, and they sound so badass with his el shorties and prochamber...heres some clips of it in my vid...in the part where he rips it where the camera is behind the car, thats when he had the flowmasters...anything after that is with the magnaflows:nice:

great info. for comparison purposes, does anyone have the noise levels for a stock 302 with a stock exhaust?

i vote not to get new mufflers and allow time to let the neighbors adjust to the sound level. Mine did just fine. as a side note, if you install turbos it will quiet your car down ALOT......mine is 1/2 a loud as it was. With an offroad x and Flowmasters it was as quiet as a car with stock 4-cat pipes and mufflers.

Yeah my magnaflows were just barely louder than stock, even when you get on it. That was with the stock h-pipe.

With the o/r X, it's not very loud at idle, but once you get on it, holy crap it gets loud.

Is anyone paying attention, lol? The "the Hooker Competition Turbo Muffler ($30 per muffler) or the 3 chamber DELTA flow flowmasters " are quieter than those mufflers on that old chart. So maxflow and borla are out because they are louder. He sasys he wants quiet.
