Ready to install Longblock. Do it w/ headers on?

I have a new longblock that I bought and I'm ready to install it. I'd like to know if I need to leave the headers off though. I have a Flaming river manual rack that I also installed already, if t hat makes a difference.

shorty or longtube?

i installed my complete engine with equal length shortys on it by myself in about 5 mins, there really is nothing to worry about with shortys.

Long tubes i dont know as i have no experience

i installed a motor in my last mustang without the headers on. i had equal length shorties and had no problem installing the headers with the motor in.
if there long tubes i would set the headers in first then drop the motor in next.

They are BBK 1 3/4 longtubes... I guess setting them in before the engine would be a good idea. I'll send pics if I ever get this damn thing in.

This is what I would with the longtubes. Bolting them up once they are in isn't hard its trying to get enough space to get them in with the engine in there. Lay them in, set the engine in and bolt them on.

I would lay the headers in place, and wire them there, leaving enough room to drop the engine in between them. This is much easier than fishing them in later. I have really old school longtubes.

Ok, I'll follow your direction. I'll putthe headers in first, then set the motor in. Is the steering linkage going to be a problem?

id say bolt em on and try it .. i dropped mine in with longtubes on it was not a problem whatsoever not the same headers.. they were heddman longtube in a 85 gt..

Yeah....thats the best way to do it. Lay the headers in the engine bay and if possible get a friend to help you out. Lower the engine in and connect the headers as you lower it down. The steering linkage SHOULD fit afterwards, if it doesn't you'lll either need to "massage" the primary tube that it runs in to, modify your steering shaft or buy a better solid steering shaft.

That's the method I used to install my MAC 1 3/4 long tubes on my 351 stroker, and it worked alright. Still got a few scratches on the ceramic coating, but I guess I just gotta live with it.

I have a solid linkage as part of my flaming river manual rack, so two points for me... Last night I didn't have any help, so I just polished my aluminum radiator and carb... I'll kepp ya posted.
